Panthers free agent possibilities/predictions

This year's free agent class doesn't look very strong to me. Theres a bunch of 30+ players.

Janoris Jenkins, George Iloka, Casey Hayward, Jared Cook are some names I've seen tossed around in recent days are some guys I like.

Who knows what Dg will do in Fa , Here I will put few names out there I could see Dg could be interested in .

(Wr)
Anquan Boldin  (better version of cotchery & wants to go to a contender)
James Jones  ?? he wanted to play with cam in 2014 , did good with Gb last year
Marques Colston

(De)
Quinton Coples (Kinston, NC) should know in next 3/4 days
xxJason Pierre-Paul  (  Giants now are expected to re-sign DE Jason Pierre-Paul )
Robert Ayers (Not if his askin price is 10mil a year like they are reporting)
Chris Long
Jaye Howard
William Hayes (High Point, NC)
Derrick Shelby
Adrian Clayborn
Charles Johnson  (could return )

(S)
Chris Conte
Reggie Nelson
George Iloka
Eric Weddle (If the price is right )
William Moore
Tyvon Branch
Rodney McLeod

(CB)
Prince Amukamara
Patrick Robinson
Brandon Bokyin
Sean Smith
Leon Hall

Like i said Who knows , Just a few i think he could be looking at . Its  all about what the market sets itself at in the next few days Dg want be jumping on anything till it all settles down as in he want over pay  .

Most of these seem very reasonable. Not a fan of Conte. James Jones scares me a bit with how he disappears anywhere but GB. My money is on Clayborn. I was thinking Canty might be a good rotational guy but rumor has it he is going back to Baltimore.

I don't expect Gman to go after a Top Shelf FA. But if he does. I would expect it to be at DE.

There are just some positions where draft picks just historically do NOT come out of college ready to produce.  DE's are at the top of that list.

And I hope OL and safety help are on that list.  I like this big guy;

Quote

2. George Iloka

2015 team: Cincinnati Bengals

A three-year starter for the Bengals, the former fifth-round pick is one of the most complete safeties hitting free agency this offseason. His run defense grade over the last two seasons is +4.7, while his coverage grade over the same span is +7.2. Iloka has the size (6-foot-4-inches, 225 pounds) that some teams will covet to match up with tight ends, even if he wasn’t used often in that role in Cincinnati.

I know it is cliche but I also hope decisions are based on locker room also.  I don't think you can sell short the strength of it this past season and adding someone like Grimes (and wife) with all that drama attached would be counter productive.

I honestly believe we will get Mario Williams at this point.

Remember this game?

we better hurry then ,

Jason Cole reports that the Dolphins are nearing a deal with DE Mario Williams that could be worth roughly $8 million per year.

If this is a thread to Think like Gettleman when it comes to free agency.  What you have to do is wait until about day 3-4 after all the other teams (Raiders, Dolphins, Jaguars, etc.) over spend on "top" free agents.  Heck look what kind of contract Dwayne Allen just got from the Colts.  After the first and second wave of top FAs have signed their contract.  Then take a look at what's left and then you can start your predictions.   Now, because these days haven't started here would be my "guesses" as Gettleman:

WR Anquan Boldin - vet WR who wants to play for a contender and could provide that Vet leadership for KB and Funch. (still highly unlikely)

DE Williams Hayes - run stopping DE with North Carolina Ties.

DB - Brandon Boykin slot DB could slide right in with Norman at 1 and Bene at 2.

S Tyron Branch 31 - this years Coleman siging.

DB  AJ Bouye 24 -

But again.  Let the first couple of waves of FA go. then see whats left then go from there.

Boldin would be a slam dunk here.  I don't see it happening though with the emergence of Funchess and the big year Ginn had.  Boldin will probably go to the pats and Brady will resurrect his career for a year or two before retiring

He would be a better version of cotchery and would also give us a viable weapon in the event that Benjamin doesn't come back as strong as before and needs more time.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
