We only have Ginn and Brown for one more season I think. We could use a sure-handed receiver m.

While im more in favor of getting a SS or DL with our first, we're gonna need to replace those two and rookie WR have made plays and started for us with great success,

BPA...it all boils down to our draft board.in just really hoping that CAP can become our feature back, otherwise, there's a better chance that a higher first RB falls to us because of all the DL out there who are sure-fire 1st rounders.

I dont care how the chains move, as long as they do.

Big guys are just as dangerous as the little burner in my opinion.

And we already have 4 to 5 of those guys going to Camp.. I'd rather keep a diverse group and add a speedy shifty WR.. Ginn is older then the rest of our group and Brown still has question. . Jmo.. the more way you can move the chains the better..

Not to mention we have already spent a lot of capital on drafting WR early the last 2 years.. And I liked our 1st rounder to have a chance at some serious playing time.. We are deep with young WR right now.. I'd rather spend a later pick on that position if needed and the right player is available. .

Similar to the better WRS we already have.. Don't want at all..

He's absolutely nothing like the receivers we already have.  He gets separation, runs good routes, and has good hands.  Some of our current guys run good routes, but none of them get separation except Ginn on occasion and Ginn has Ginn hands, not good hands.

Poor man's AJ Green is the best comparison I've seen for him. Similar builds/measurables and they are both phenomenal in the air on jump balls.

So we will spend a 1st round pick on a younger Cotchery? ?

We got KB and Funchess both bigger with a higher celling.. Norwood and Bersin are cheaper options for the same job..

A) Doctson definitely has a higher ceiling than Funchess and maybe higher than Benjamin.  and B) he is by no means a younger Cotchery.  He's a slightly slower version of Amari Cooper or slightly less overall athletic version of AJ Green.  If Doctson goes somewhere that they throw him the ball he'll have better numbers his rookie year than Cotchery ever had in his career in one season.

I'm to the point where I think only 1 (if any even) WR gets brought in.  If say, a Boldin was signed in FA...I don't think we draft a WR unless it's a crazy BPA value pick. If no FA is signed, we may not draft one.

4 of our 5 WR spots are essentially set right now. KB, Funch, Ginn, and Philly are all but locks IMO. The 5th spot is where things could get funky. The team just re-signed Stephen Hill and supposedly "love" him. A guy like Byrd is on the practice squad with that speed. Cotch could come back. Bersin even. And then Gettleman could always just grab some UDFAs and see if any stick.  IF we were to sign a vet FA like Boldin who seemingly would definitely make the team...I can't see us drafting a WR unless it's just a stupidly good value pick and then a tough cut/trade will be made.

Let me just reiterate...my God I have never seen a board so confident in a group that literally ranked as one of the worst units both on our team and in the league: WR.

With the exception of Ted Ginn vs. the Falcons in Carolina (and that was only for the first quarter) can anybody argue that a WR or our WRs as a group carried our team to a victory? As a unit they were at least as responsible for the lost against Denver as our O-line was.

But the counterpoint is: we are getting KB back (and another year of Funchess)...he will prevent our WRs unit from once again ranking in the bottom 1/3 of the league in production!!!! I am as big of a KB fan as anyone and advocated that we drafted him long before we did, but KB is not prime Calvin Johnson. And of course, he IS coming off of a year long ACL injury. Even coming into this season, KB was not even a top 20 WR. Even going into this season with a completely healthy WR core, that core only potentially was a top 10 unit. Potentially. If KB took the next step, Funchess had a great rookie season, and Philly/Ginn could beat their one on one matches...only then would our WR unit potentially be a top 10 unit.

I am not saying we must draft a WR in the first round or go trade for Alshon. Hell, I am not even saying that we must even add a WR to our team at all...but this unwavering confidence some have in a unit that the past 4 years have been below average, at best, is confounding.

It is almost like if our WRs manage not to trip over themselves while running a go route or pop a perfectly thrown ball into the air for a turnover, some of this board would count that as good enough for the Carolina Panther's passing game (using WRs).
