He fumbles at the wrong time every time. I like his ability but we can do without him. Stewart can do everything he does. We just need a home run talent to spell him.

Er...um...uhh...nope, can't argue that logic.

Tolbert is a fan-fave and a playmaker for us. He fits in here and I highly doubt anyone is gonna offer him enough to keep him from signing a fair-market salary from us.

I think he'll be allowed to test the market before our FO gets into contract talks with Tolbert's agent.

I fully expect Tugboat to be a Panther next year unless we sign a hybrid TE to take his roster spot.

Not to be that guy or anything. I just wanted to point out that we ARE in contract talks with Tolbert. Not a big deal. Just thought you might like to know.

Yanno what, I want to see him back. Tolbert is a throwback type player and as a run heavy team, we need smashmouth players like him. The FB role still has value in the game and he's one of the best at it. Measuring him as an RB is really not fair. Once or twice a game, Tolbert hits someone with a block that makes them swallow their mouthguards or leaves them seeing stars... that isn't just something you can pick up from some no name RB.

And geez, stop blaming the Superb Owl on the guy. There's just over 50 guys on the Panthers that played their worst game of the season that night, and some of them make really big money.

All things aside, though, Tolbert does need to approach this realistically. 1) He ain't getting any younger or faster. 2) There aren't too many teams even keeping a FB on their rosters, so his marketplace is pretty small. 3) You're on a team where you're a bit of a star and they apparently value you and what you bring to the game. 4) This team will be winning for some time to come and that isn't necessarily going to be the case with someone else.

Take the deal offered and play the game while you still can. No matter what the money is, it's still better than you can make doing just about any other job out there. Keep riding this gig for as long as you can, it's the best game in town.

I wasn't sure if they were in talks or not. I know Tolbert's an asset, I just know that we know what we're getting from him and that's it.

If his contract takes us out of the running for a DE because of his price tag, I'm gonna be pretty upset.

2-3 million is about all I'd offer him. I don't know if that's a slap in the face considering his role, then I apologize, but how many years does he actually have and can he get better at moving the sticks and doing a better job of blocking than we've seen out of him.

Jesus H Christ this better be sarcasm or your definition of irony or something.

The last game he played was the first time he fumbled in two years. He's not had a regular season fumble in the four seasons he's been at Carolina.

On the general topic, as long as we run the type of offence we do we are always going to need a FB who can also run and catch. There's a reason a strong blocking FB didn't make it past Training Camp last year.

He can do a lot of things for us. Including Special Teams. Just not sure he is worth the 2.5 he got last year. Not sure what he wants. But I am pretty sure Gman wants to bring that number down somewhat.

It almost costs you 2 players to replace him. So it is a dicey situation. Keep him and make us both happy money wise is my best hope.

I still think we try to square-peg/round-hole the guy. So-so blocker and terrible short-yardage back, despite how we use him. Very good in the passing game but not used there enough. I'd rather have a legitimate traditional full back (lee ward-type) but if losing Tolbert means we are putting Dickson or someone like that back as a blocker, no thanks; just bring Tolbert back.

He has 2 years in the tank tops.  He carries 50 lbs more than his frame should and he is very physical.  No way he plays at 34.   If he wants a 4-5 year deal, that is the issue.  He is worth about $2m tops.

Personally, I think we need a better blocking #2 TE or a better blocking FB or both.  Tolbert /Dickson is not opening holes.

Okay  my bad but his 2 fumbles in the biggest game of the franchise still stings. But still paying him 2 million a year for the limited production he creates is not worth it.  He has to accept a DG deal to stay. I get that he's a jack knife player and is good for some nice 1st downs. But as was said earlier he isn't all that suited for this offense. And we have to start looking beyond Jonathan Stewart soon as well. We lack speed at RB. We have physical RBs but a lot of their effectiveness still stems from the respect Cam creates.  I want a runner that truly compliments Stewart and possibly be the guy down the road. We will need that as Cam gets older and matures even more as a passer. That also means having a FB that can paveway.

I want him to stay for the right price. But unloading extra cash on a guy like Tolbert who couldn't be a full time RB if injuries pile up just isn't all that worth it to me.
