Would seriously like us to pick Ward back up - the guy is a friggin beast - anyone know what he is up to these days?

If they were interested, they would have signed him to a futures contract (as could anyone else).

It's not happening.

As to Tolbert, I'd love to see him back.  Gettleman obviously still thinks he has value per his comments and the fact that they're trying to re-sign him.

If we were to dump everybody that made a bad play in the Super Bowl, we'd have a pretty thin roster.

Wish him well if he ultimately moves on, but he's not gonna find another team with an atmosphere like this one.

Time to get a FB that can actually block.

Tolbert came back from his injury with 0 of his old burst and ability to push the pile. He gets stuffed more often than not now, so his inability to actually block is no longer outweighed by other things he offers. I wanted to cut him last year to save us that 2.5 million.

If I had to choose Tolbert as my FB or Hoover as my FB, I'd take Hoover every Sunday. He opened up lanes for our RBs. Tolbert gets stuffed a lot at the line and misses tons of blocks.

Check our record over the past 2 seasons with and without Tolbert before posting in this thread....

Dont make a statement like this unless you are going to back it up with useful information. Such as...who were those losses against?  Or those wins?  Or how much of a role did he play in those wins in which he was active.  Way too many variables come into play.  We never lost when Luke was hurt last season.  But we lost our only 2 games of the season when he was starting.  We should def look at starting Klein from now on. His Super Bowl performance was an eye opener. He's done well in his few spots he gets. I had questions whether or not he was worth it just for that, but then you see our record with and without him. So that's been his saving grace. Now after the SB, I just don't feel he's worth it. Sure, we'd get a downgrade by replacing him. But the trick is turning that saved money into value at another position. Not always the easiest problem to solve.

I'm told the #Panthers and reps for Mike Tobert have been in discussions regarding a potential extension. May work up to the deadline.

They still trying to work something out it seems . Time will tell i guess

Using that standard, there'd be "eye openers" on several players.

Never judge by one game, including a Super Bowl.

He's been a little injury-prone and is hit-and-miss in blocking situations, but he's still probably the best FB in the game.

We've just got to trim the fat wherever we can and if we need a blocking back, I'd like to see a hybrid TE/FB that is more versatile than Tolbert.

Dont get me wrong, I love me some Toldozer, but it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

But I thought we should franchise tag him?

Just off the top of my head, Kuhn and Reece are better. It's not hard to be one of the best either when there are only so many FBs in the game. Most offenses use 2 TE or 3 WR sets. However, if a team does use a FB, that FB has to block. You aren't a real FB if you can't block. I hate FBs that can't block. It's like WRs that can't catch. It's their main job. Simonson can be that TE/FB you speak of.

Tolbert was solid in 2012 and great in 2013, but his return in 2014 coincided with the OL situation getting figured out (Norwell, Remmers, and Turner all starting). It probably didn't hurt that Carolina was signing RBs off the street and playing them that week, but the OL had way more to do with it than Tolbert. His blocking was atrocious this year as well, though he is miscast in that role.

I said in another thread that I can't quantify his value in the locker room, but Gettleman isn't going to pay primo prices for a good locker room guy that's meh on the field.
