Don't see why we wouldn't give Finnegan a minimum deal and let him fight for the nickel CB job in camp.

Tillman may not even be ready to play at all next season due to the timing of his injury so that is understandable. He could possibly be available really late in the season if we need an injury replacement assuming he doesn't retire and rehabs hard.

Vet minimum for Finnegan's 10+ years is $985,000... still a big chunk of change for a guy who really is on the shank of his career.

The minimum salary benefit makes it so his cap hit would only be ~$500,000, same as a 3rd year player, and we could cut him without penalty(except a small signing bonus) at anytime if he's beaten out or we just need the roster spot. Very little risk involved for us.

I don't really care that much, but it's an easy move and adds some vet depth to a position we are thin at.

The Cornerback Clubhouse suddenly has too many vacancies. Makes me a little ill at ease, but the record (so far) shows that Gettlemagic can fill the empty spots with capable players. Look for some forum drama if they don't use a high draft pick on a CB though.

Forget where I saw it, but Finnegan has reportedly said the Panthers are the only team he'd be willing to play for this season.

Yes, both Finnegan AND Tillman said this.

To get a headline that Tillman & Finnegan "will not be back" out of this article seems kind of extreme.  Person is just speculating.  He may be right that neither is likely to be back.  He may have sources that have told him this.  But it doesn't sound like it's written in stone at this point.  I would guess that one of them, most likely Finnegan, could be around as camp competition... Alot depends on how free agency goes.
