Atlanta Falcons asked potential first round pick CB Eli Apple if he was gay

Until Eli Apple has signed a NFL contract, this coach wasn't entitled to ask that question. It doesn't matter whether the NFL is not a normal work place, the same rules apply, YOU can't ask a person anything in regards to their sexual orientation. If it applies to the personnel in the front office, it applies to the coaches.

Probably just a question to test his maturity. How he responds to it will gives you a bit perspective into his character. Is he a hot head that will get mad or will he just move onto the next question

Exactly.  They even talked about it during the combine that some teams were testing how thick players skin was with insulting questions. They specifically mentioned the meltdown of OBJ.

I'm still pissed about that OBJ poo. That poo literally fuged our entire squad up for about two weeks.

NFL is not a normal workplace and I really am failing to see an issue with this question. These guys get asked personal questions all the time.

I'm sure nobody will say anything unkind to him on the field.

As to the locker room, Charles Haley was known to masturbate naked in the Cowboys locker room.  And if a player looked at him, he'd growl back that he was thinking of their wife.

Now that's definitely not a normal workplace.

That's a scary thought....

I agree in a bubble but it sets a bad precedent.

Coaches putting hands on people outside the football field is a crime. Prospects at the combine would get character red flags if they did it. And these prospects are not employees of the NFL yet. They are being interviewed for jobs, and there's laws about what is not appropriate to ask the person being interviewed

I don't think sexual orientation is illegal to ask.
