I'm not a salary cap expert but I'm pretty sure that 4 mil was already paid to him so he is getting it no matter what. It's just an accounting trick that makes it show on the books at this time

Pretty much what it is

It's also impossible to compare this to "real world" scenarios, since something like 150,000 vs 80,000 would affect you and I very much, but when we are looking at someone who has more money then I'd ever be able to spend, and is basically set for life (I've heard he was very judicious with his money), it's hard to relate or understand. I'd take him back in a heartbeat, but I guess I can't blame him for seeing what he can get. I just can't relate to it at all.

Same logic that Dems use by saying the rich should pay 80% taxes "because they can afford it".

These guys have agents, PR people, etc.  Many also are involved with foundations.

A few million a year is a bunch of money...not matter how much you make.

It actually happens all the time.

Would have happened to LaFell, if the Pats hadn't picked him up.  Same with Munnerlyn, and many more.  It's a chance they have to take.  Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

I'm not not about fringe players, or pratice squad players who get signed and dropped every week. I'm talking about tenured players, who became salary cap casulaties. E.g Cj, Smitty, Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne's of the world. Can't recall ever seeing that happen

That's not how the salary cap works. The $4M is from a previously paid signing bonus. It was going to be there no matter what happened.

I'm confused.  His salary this season would have been 15 million.  We saved 11 by cutting him with 4 million dead.  If the 4 million was already paid, then why is it factored against the cap for this years original 15 million salary?

not arguing, just don't understand how it works.

Except that is not the scenario that is occurring.

What if that employer told you that they were letting you go if you are unwilling to accept a salary cut from 150,000 to 80,000 a year?  And you thought you might be able to get 125,000 a year from a rival employer?  While I commend someone that would stay for the 80 a year if they are happy, I certainly don't blame anyone for looking for more money.  Or in this case, less of a paycut.

Except that's no the scenario.

Let's say you sell cars, you sold 25 four years ago a got a raise. The last two years you only sold 4 cars. Your employer informs you that you need to take a play cut or leave.  You choose to leave knowing you only sold 4 cars and think people will pay you as if you can still sell 25. But if everything falls though and no one else wants you, you will crawl back.  Now that's the situation.

CJ is greedy and selfish just like Dwill and Smith before him. I can promise you one thing if he comes crawling back he is going to play for a whole lot less that what was discussed. DG does not play.

Neither one of us know the specifics of it, but mine is far closer than any scenario you have yet proposed.  Imo, and apparently the opinion of most who have commented on the situation, both sides are being business like and practical. We will just have to agree to disagree.
