Why was soon-to-be free agent Antonio Gates in Charlotte today? Hmm...

That would be tampering and there is no chance we would do it that blatantly.

Not saying they did meet with him, but if they did what about it is blatant? Unless "Mert's" is somehow affiliated with the Panthers or Gettleman met him there or something.

People never cease to amaze me.  I get the intrigue...but really?
Heaven forbid we don't know every friend he's possibly made in life that could reside in Charlotte.  "He doesn't have any CLT connections."
Or if he's just passing through on a road trip...or a multitude of other things and reasons.

yeah....we may as well limit FA's from visiting any place that an NFL team resides.

From what I just heard on the radio he's a FA, so there wouldn't be any tampering if he was in Charlotte to talk to the Panthers

Until the start of free agency on March 9th at 4 PM EST, it is tampering to meet with a player. You can discuss ballpark financial figures and express interest with soon-to-be free agent's representation starting on March 7th at 4 PM EST which is the start of the "legal tampering" period.

To actually meet with a guy before you're allowed to is pretty blatant. I'm sure we tamper by discussing potential free agents with their agents at the combine and what not just like everyone else does, but I highly doubt we would go so far as to meet with a guy before free agency.

That's not to stop say Tolbert from arranging a dinner with Gates, Cam, Olsen, etc. is it?
