Worrisome part about this - is the first two went on to have revitalized careers elsewhere..

Many (arguably most) veteran releases do.

They tend to have one, maybe two, revitalized seasons nursing their bruised ego before falling back to earth.

Bottom line, though? It wasn't gonna happen here, and they weren't worth what they were being paid.

Couple of things.

bittersweet about CJ, contract aside. He gave his all, 100% of the time. Was a great leader for this team. Great ambassador for the team with his charities. It's business and it seems like CJ gets that from his tweets. We won't see a smitty or dlo offseason from him I don't think.

two I see a lot of talk about kalil being axed next year. I don't see it as it stands right now. He is coming off an all-pro year, his contract is in line with the best centers in football. Now his play could decline as he is getting up in age, but as it stands right now he is worthy of his contract.

three. I def think stew is gone after this year.

I think Kalil will retire after this season.

atlanta was also something like 10 yards away from going to a super bowl in 2012.  if they had a good DE on their team that might have put them over the top.

Yep. DE was always their missing link.

End of the day, since signing his "Big Money" deal, we have paid him $65,000,000 for 42 sacks over a 5 year period.

If CJ is salty, he has no reason to be.

Don't think he is. I mean getting cut stings, but he's shown some pretty high character based on what he is tweeting out. See what shakes out. Also, as others have mentioned it's still a possibility that he resigns with us after testing the market. That would be ideal.

Man, I hate that because CJ has been a great guy as well as high quality player.  But the cost versus production was the biggest issue.  CJ knows that.  It's nothing personal, and probably something he figured when he signed the deal from the get go.

I wouldn't mind if he came back at a much lower figure because there was really no way to fix that cap figure.  He will be missed though.  A good dude.

But the door is open for Kony and we are not in pretty big need of DE help...

How the fug did DG not get a GM job before us? We are so damn lucky

My guess is working for one of the "best" franchises in the sport can get you overlooked.....most just figured the Giants "should" be good, and he was just another cog.

Had he been employed by Cleveland in the same role, and they started winning, he would have been plucked a long time ago.
