Darker, grittier reboots are getting kinda silly

Just saw word that The CW is doing a pilot called "Riverdale" which is said to be, and I quote, "a darker take on the Archie comics".

Yeah...Can't wait to see that.

Maybe next they can do a dark, gritty take on Richie Rich that explores issues of class differences, or perhaps a new version of Beetle Bailey that addresses the horrors of war.

What else can we give a dark reimagining to?

I have no room in my heart left for hating dark gritty remakes. I'm on to hating "The story behind the story" or "The events that inspired the story" or "The part from before the story you were never told" crap.

  • Dracula Untold
  • The Heart of the Sea (Moby Dick)
  • The Huntsman Winters War (Snow White)
  • Victor Frankenstein

Not a fan of those either.

Dracula - and vampires in general, honestly - have kind of had the opposite treatment over the last few years. They've changed them from pure predators to whiney emos that want to talk about their feelings.
