I dont get it, even when he's playing like garbage he still won the SB, in 10/15 years time nobody will remember how bad he was and just remember he went out on top, why would you want to ruin that for the sake of one more year?

Unfortunately, people will remember how he finished his career. He very well may hear the Trent Dilfer SuperB owl winning QB comparisons. Folks love their fallen hero's almost as much as they love making their hero's.

I won't dispute that we got screwed on some calls, but we did that to ourselves as much as anything.

I am a firm believer that if we would have been given Cotch's catch right out of the shute. We just may have won that game. That play killed us. Stopped what would have been a huge momentum builder for us. And turned into 7 lucky azz, heart breaking, gift of a TD in SuperB owl history.

The confidence we gained if we get Cotch's catch in immeasurable. If we get that play, we may very well made more plays instead of leaving them on the field.

I know, I know. One play doesn't decide a game. Especially that early. But dammit. That play WAS the tone setter. And we came out on the short end of the stick.

end rant.

Unless he doesn't want his last performance, or last season, to be one which people remember him being terrible?

He might have got his ring, but some people's egos won't let them retire unless they are happy with how their career would end if that was their last game. From a purely individual standpoint, Peyton's last season and last game won't be remembered for what he did, but will be remembered for how good that Denver team was to win without quality QB play. Thus, maybe he wants to comeback and play and have another big year? It might be unrealistic, but some people's egos won't accept that.

The other reason he might want to continue is he simply loves the game and isn't ready to call it a day. After all, in sports you spend a long time retired. He retires at 40, lives to 85, that's a long time to spend wondering if you had one more run in you. Maybe that's what he thinks, keep playing until he physically can no longer player or doesn't have the desire to play.

Pretty much how I view it. My only problem is his timing. IMO, he should do the right thing, and let the Bronco's know what they need to do. Then again, if I am the Bronco's, I might just release him and wash my hands of it. Thanks for the SB, now hit the road.

A fans perspective, is a funny thing.

Most, if not all,  would want their sports heros to go out on top.

While that is sweet sentiment,  it doesn't reward the player, unless he has never won a championship prior to winning one in the twilight of his career.

As a player, such as Manning, who's whole existence includes football,  I'm sure he doesn't share that thought process at all.

He loves football. He wakes up, and works out to play football. He loves the brotherhood...the locker room. Being around the guys. He loves leading men to victory.  Walking away from all that has to be the hardest thing a player like him could ever do.

If there is a team willing to pay him, and start him, then I can't see him wanting to quit.

It's not going to tarnish his legacy.  20 years from now, no one will care how he went out.  It's n9t going to change the fact the Manning is one of the greatest to ever play the game.

While I feel he should retire, going out on top - I understand why he would decide to keep playing, and it won't bother me a bit. Gives me another opportunity to see one of the best.

It was the replay ref's wife.

It was the replay assistant ref's wife. He wasn't the guy making the actual calls on replay.

It's a bad look for the NFL, but unless the actual official asked the guy his opinion, which given its the Super Bowl, he probably was talking to Dean Blandino if anything, it didn't effect the outcome of the replay. He should have been relieved of duty though, as should every ref that had anyone in their immediate family as a fan of either team.

Back to the original topic....me thinks Peyton is withholding his decision so the Broncos HAVE to cut him and he can go play for someone else....that's what it's looking like right now.  Denver has a few says until his $19 million salary is guaranteed for 2016....
