Sweeeeeeeet.

wanna see what he can do as a 4-3 end. He struggled as an OLB in a 3-4. He still had like a 6 or 7 sack season. Guy has talent.

Agreed. Talent is real in this guy. Bad start in a scheme that never really fit him imo. Moving him to OLB was never going to work. Letting him get after the QB and stuff the run is his forte.

While reading this thread in one window, in another window I've got the current version of Walter Football's latest mock draft running.  Following the combine with new Big Board rankings, the good DE's & DTs are getting snatched up early in the 1st.

11 of the 28 first picks going to DE / DT / OLB (pass rusher).  Shoring up our DEs through free agency looks wise as the good ones could fly off the board in the draft.

  • San Diego Chargers: DeForest Buckner, DE/DT, Oregon
  • Dallas Cowboys: Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Leonard Floyd, DE/OLB, Georgia
  • Oakland Raiders: Emmanuel Ogbah, DE, Oklahoma State
  • New Orleans Saints: A'Shawn Robinson, DE/DT, Alabama
  • Detroit Lions: Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville
  • Atlanta Falcons: Jonathan Bullard, DE, Florida
  • Buffalo Bills: Shaq Lawson, DE, Clemson
  • Seattle Seahawks: Darron Lee, OLB, Ohio State
  • Green Bay Packers: Kevin Dodd, DE/DT/OLB, Clemson
Kansas City Chiefs: Vernon Butler, DE/DT, Louisiana Tech

I don't think Coples has anything to do with CJ, but adding DE depth is a huge need for the Panthers.  I'm not sure Coples is capable of being a starter, but Gettleman knows a lot more than I do.  Could be a good value signing.

I still CJ has something left in the tank, but he's not capable of playing as many downs as he once did and being effective.  I hope he is willing to negotiate and stay here.  CJ played well in the playoffs.  He had a bad regular season no doubt, but he was injured a lot.  People wanting to get rid of him need to consider that losing him leaves a huge hole at DE.  Not saying it can't be addressed, but CJ is still an average to above average DE even at this point.  He had 41 sacks in the 4 seasons prior to this past year.  2015 is the first time he hasn't earned his paycheck.

No doubt CJ still has a lot left in his tank, that's why I think he'll be playing elsewhere next year. He's getting to the end stages of a pretty good career, now's not the time for him to turn down money. He's good enough that somebody will be willing to pay him more than Gettleman will. Let's not forget that he was injured much of last season.

Wow...thats very interesting seeing as i havent kept up with the draft to much. A lot of teams are gonna improve their D lines mainly in our division. Coples sounds a great plus at the right time.

I really, really want Dodd or Bullard. If we can't land either one, Nkemdiche may be our only choice... -_-

Ogbah is now out of reach.

Obviously these are just speculation...  and even if this mock IS accurate, there's still a few other DEs out there we might like.

Calhoun

Nassib

I'm sure Getts can find good quality & value at #30.

But yeah, having Spence & Nkemdiche falling out of the top 20 or top 25 really hurts us, as does the bad news on Jaylon Smith, and the poor showing by a bunch of the WRs.  Makes a run on good DEs that much more likely.

Coples would be a great signing but if we do not hear anything by the end of tomorrow it is not a good sign. Coples is very proud of where he comes from in NC by having it in his bio on twitter. I hope he comes back home.

Yeah if we don't hear anything by the end of day tomorrow I can already predict the reactions.

CHEAP JP STRIKES AGAIN11!!11

SO sick of Gettleman! His way or the highway!!!

etc etc

LOL I trust Gettleman 100 percent the guy knows what he is doing. I like the way he runs the show.

If this signing gets done, I predict he's going to be mainly the backup 3T DT with the ability to play LDE in some jumbo and short yardage packages as well. As it's been previously said, Rivera and Co were looking at him as a DT coming out of college and I doubt their opinion has changed much

I think he'd be an improvement over Dwan. Younger, more scheme/position diverse, and should have a chip on his shoulder. Would love it if the signing is made official.
