Coples visiting, taking physical

I think Coples eventually gets done. He, and Gettleman both, are probably wanting to kick the tires on other options as they should.

 

Would love to come out of FA with Coples and another DE (Mario Williams or similar signing) AND draft one high. Hopefully Cotchery gets in Mario's ear about how great playing for the Panthers is, and how he should take a little less money to chase a SB.

When RR was talking about coples, he referred to him as DT. Coples on the outside is the reason he's been cut twice(drafted team and former jets GM)within 3 months. Could he lose a few LBs, work very hard and maybe be a OK 4-3 DE......but not like a human freak super Mario ala peppers. Thank you for confirming what I was saying. RR refers to QC as a DT. If QC sees himself as a DE (since he is 6'6" 290 lbs, same as Mario Williams, and played last year as an OLB), that can be a reason why the deal wasn't done yesterday. Disagreement about where the Panthers want him to line up and where QC wants to line up is a legit reason why he wouldn't join the team.

I remember RRs 2012 press conference, he stated they viewed coples as a DT. All the DE ala CJ replacement comments are pointless. If he & agent want that DE money, they better be worried about even being on a 53 man roster. I stated in a different reply, when your drafted team cuts you mid season, then a couple months later the GM that drafted you cuts you too..... Well that's a issue, big issue.

Beating OGs\Cs is muuuuch easier than OTs, especially given coples skill set.

And that's for him to find out. It's his first shot at free agency, since he was claimed off waivers by Miami. Let him find out what his market is, and if he decides Carolina is the best place for him position-wise and price-wise, let him join the team. But if he wants everything his way, on his terms, and for his price, he can gtfo

CJ is a shell of his former self and is only getting older, and slower.  Might as well cut bait there.

Seems like Coples would be a 3-4 million per year guy for 2 year contract playing situationally in both DE and DT packages.

Also, on a side note, not sure Star will be given a serious contract at the end of coming season.  I expect us to draft a DT with the value they hold in this years draft.

I think DG and Ron want Coples to play a DT/DE rotation. Coples may just want to play at DE exclusively...

DG might double dip on the DL in the 1st and 2nd round of the draft...I think he might target Dobb and Chris Jones out of Miss. And then grab Clark from Texas Tech in the 3rd if he falls or he could trade up for him.
