Patience. They still have until 4:00 tomorrow to make a deal. If/when he gets tagged, I believe they will continue working towards a deal until July when the actual deadline is.

What would really happen is that we would tag him then break off talks until around May/June when they would resume. That keeps him waiting in case he starts getting itchy for the pay day and shows we are willing to let him play on the tag and not desperate to make a deal. That also allows Gettleman to focus fully on free agency and the draft which he is surely behind on due to us being in the Super Bowl. The only negative for us is that the entire $14M will be on our cap once we tag him, but we have more than enough cap space to maneuver in free agency without worrying about Josh's cap hit.

Of course, I still expect there to be questions about the progress of the contract talks every other day during that time when literally nothing is happening lol,

When Gettlemen calls me to ask for advice, I will tell him this:

1. Sign a veteran DE in free agency.

2. Tag Norman with the idea that we are getting one more season out of him.  At any rate, it gives us time.  Norman has not been shy about the money side--I would too.,  but I doubt he will be worth top dollar for 3-4 years.  Get one more out of him and reload.  The CB position in our defense does not require top--end CBs--money needs to be spent elsewhere.

3. Draft a CB to develop.

4.  Always remember, a good pass rush makes CBs great.  draft a DE too.

That's basically my exact offseason plan as well except add sign a coverage FS, move Kurt to SS and improve coverage at both positions. Kurt was very opportunistic and got a lot of picks which was awesome but his actual coverage was pretty lacking at times.
