He's not going to hold out. He's going to get tagged, play his Fannie off and leave after next season.

Does he hold out if we tag him a second time? I tend to agree with that he's not holding out this year although I wouldn't be too surprised if he skips some/all of the OTAs/minicamps. That's pretty much par for the course for guys who have been tagged but not signed a long term deal yet.

I don't think we would tag him a second time. If he won't like our deals this year, why would he next? He will be playing for even bigger money this coming season.

I can't believe y'all are cool with paying Josh as much, if not more than Kuechly.

it blows my mind.

You think Josh is some great teammate, well let's see how great he is once he goes to Jaxonville and gets his big payday.

No way does he deserve more than Luke.

Considering the inflation of contracts, Norman deserves as much as if not a hair more than Kuechly.  The franchise tag for LB's the year Kuechly got his deal (mind you, that includes rush 3-4 LBs, so the number is even slightly inflated for a MLB) was $13.1mil and Luke got $12.4mil per year.  With Josh's franchise tag number at $13.9mil, that means proportionately (considering apples to apples, #1 LB in the game to #1 CB in the game), Josh should get right at about $13mil per year.

Players don't get paid from top to bottom most important player gets the most money down to the least important player getting the least.  Positional value plays a large part of it, plus year by year inflation of contracts.  For example, even years ago when CJ got his new contract he got more per year than Luke did a year ago and CJ has never been as important to this team as Luke.  So that's just not how contracts work.  CJ's deal adjusted for inflation would be probably over $15 or 16mil per year.

Wanna bet? We still gotta extend Short and Star, sign a DE from FA, and start talking about Benjamin and Ealy (especially if they break out). We simply can't afford to give Norman 13-14 every year.

How long do you think this contract is going to be? It is not a baseball contract that pays him every year until he is 50. The cap number will continue to rise every year, and you can put voidable years on his contract to lower the cap hit every year. Are you sure your name is not Hurney?

Knew people would start to turn on him if the contact didn't work out to our favor. All you saying just let him go are seriously delusional....

Gotta realize that the people on this talk from a strictly emotional standpoint, almost like females.

Norman played his ass off last year and wants top dollar. Rightfully so.

What if you busted your ass proving your worth to your company? You would expect to be compensated more. If your company won't, you'll find one that will. It's the same thing with football, people just get emotionally attached.

On the flip side, Gettleman sees how good Norman has been, but doesn't want to handicap the team and take away money that could be given to other players who are deserving as well. Which is a more valuable position, DT or CB? That's what he's balancing. If he pays Norman top dollar, he can't pay KK top dollar as well. Norman's age is also a contributing factor.

People need to take emotion out of the business side of football.

Just FYI, top CB's make more than top MLB's, whether they "deserve" to or not.

As to your second point, I find it funny, and dumb at the same time, that you want to call people out for thinking he's a good teammate, just because you don't.  None of us are on the field, or in the locker room, so guess what....  none of us know how good of a teammate he is.  Him wanting to get paid what he thinks he is worth, does not make him a good, or bad, teammate.

I'll say this... If you'd ever met Josh, and had any type of conversation with him one-on-one, you wouldn't be spewing this crazy poo.  Many of us here have legit talked to him face to face, outside of football, on his own accord, and the poo you're talking is nonsense.

Why not? If we pay him $14M next year and he balls out then I don't see why he isn't worth the $16.8M in 2017(20% raise for 2nd tag per CBA) for another one year rental. He'd still have to play for a big deal the following year. If he's a stud again in 2017 then we probably have to let him walk and take big money at age 30 which is fine and if he regresses some then maybe we can re-sign him on a pretty reasonable deal.

The only problem is if the 2nd tag really pisses him off and he holds out and becomes a distraction. I'd give him a 2 year/$31M deal right now without hesitation and that would essentially be the exact same thing but with even less risk if he has a bad 2016.

Kawann Short's contract is going to blow Luke's out of the water when we extend him. It's going to be much closer to Cam money than Luke money. It will be at least $16M/year. Are you going to have an issue with that? It's the reality of positional value in the current market.
