I like Brown as a wr4 maybe even an eventual wr3, but he definitely has room to improve, whether or not he does will determine his longevity in the league and on this team.

He body catches more often than I'd like to see,  especially on the deep bombs and has a tendency to wait on the ball instead of attacking it on certain routes, led to a few plays this year being broken up and nearly intercepted.

Seems that on high passes he will go up and get it, but I don't see his shoulders withstanding the beating for too much longer from the landings.

Its the underneath comeback routes that worry me the most, he seems to sit on it and wait for it to come in, and I mean all the way into his body for the catch vs extending his arms and attempting securing it away from a defenders hands.

We should hold our WRs to a higher standard than most teams imo. Our WRs face single coverage while the rest of the defense focuses on stopping the run. Our WRs should be putting up big numbers, or moving on to be career backups for other teams. The time to load up on passing weapons is now. Dump the barely good enough to hang around the bench receivers.

Are you confusing Madden with real life again?

Bench receivers are  an absolutely necessary part of the game. Hell, arguably, bench receivers almost carried us to a Lombardi. Don't get me wrong, I get what you're saying, but I don't know that I would even characterize Brown as "barely good enough to hang around." As a fourth or fifth receiver, I believe that the jury is still out (though some may even take issue with that). The brass obviously feels that Norwood is definitely worth keeping in the mix, and Stephen Hill doesn't appear to be an afterthought. Plus, G-man believes in upgrading where and when he can. And, it's not like Ginn is probably going anywhere considering that he outproduced Brown and can return kicks. So, Brown will have to perform to stay relevant.

For the entire season I said, and could not stop from thinking this, "I've got a feeling we're going to be at some level of the playoffs and Cotchery or Brown are going let us down." Bench receivers took our Lombardi. Yes they had help with Remmers pooping the bed and others.

Let's just set aside the bench receiver term. Here is what I want. I don't want to look at the game and see our WRs singled up with the box loaded and everyone keying on Cam. That is bullshit. Why is that so bad? We only lost two games. It's great! No. Cam will get hurt badly and it will ruin his career. Just a matter of time. Adding proven offensive weapons, not unproven journeymen, is the best way to protect Cam and win in the NFL in the long run.

Guys listen, I want every Panthers fan to repeat this right now "we don't have to have mediocre WR." We can have good things now. The dark days of Jake are gone. We don't have to load up the defense and pray for a 3 point win. That's over. We can bring in some great offensive weapons. We have the money. We have the picks. We have the QB. The good days are here. This is a passing league. A TD league. Load up.

I have been banging that drum for years. I agree with you philosophically, but the reality is that you can't have superstars at every position. Championship team building is a puzzle in every sense of the word. Do I believe that we can upgrade our depth at WR? Sure! But, I don't necessarily believe that it is easy as snapping your fingers.

I had the same concern that you did last season, and unfortunately my worst fear came to pass on the biggest stage, but it is what it is. Kelvin will be back this year, and I absolutely believe that Funchess will ascend to his intended role for us this year. Add in Ginn and the bench guys, and we shouldn't be bottom barrel at the position. Unlike some, I do see the potential benefit of a Kevin Norwood, Stephen Hill or Damiere Byrd having an expanded role. And, last but not least, G-man will pick a receiver if the dude is the best value at the pick. In my opinion, It's too early to be bemoaning or trumpeting the status quo at any position depending on one's perspective (save for QB and LB).

I hope it doesn't sound like I'm saying "hey guys I have an idea, how about we put an all-pro at every position?" We have KB, Funchess, and Olsen. Expanding on that with another proven top quality WR would make me feel a lot better about our situation. Drafting another TE to groom and eventually replace Olsen wouldn't bother me either. Actually there is WR in this draft who is a bit similar to KB, and we might be able to snag him at the bottom of the second. We have cash to spend in FA. We need to take a long look at the WRs available. And if the unproven journeymen turn into good WRs then great. Fantastic. But we're trying to win the SB now.
