No 7th Round Pick ('17)

If we keep up these playoff appearances, I don't mind giving these away every year to move up or find talent we wanted in previous drafts via trade.  DG has proven to find UFAs quite well and it's only a 5-7 player discrepancy if we're constantly in the playoffs.

Person reported it a couple days ago.

I actually think it's interesting that we kept Norwood all this time. Only active for one game, but the fact that he lasted on the roster all year at the expense of a draft pick really shows how much the team likes him. Sure, it's a 7th rounder, but Gettleman has used those to move up for guys like Daryl Williams and Benwikere.

Honestly, I thought he wouldn't make the roster next year, but now I'm questioning that. He's got great hands with good size and speed; could maybe be a quicker Cotchery and take over that role.

“Kevin came in late, right before our last preseason game, and you’ve got to learn the system. We do a ton of stuff at the line of scrimmage and there’s a learning curve there. There’s a learning process,” Gettleman said. “Kevin really finished the season strong. The last six weeks of practice he really did some nice things so we’re really looking forward to it.”

LIke Cracka said, we will gain a pick down the line through compensatory picks and/or not too concerned about a late 7th.

Outside of trying to find a Tyler Lockette kind of shifty slot WR that can come in and be a ST stud, I don't think Panthers look for WRs this offseason.  I think we roll into '16-'17 with:

KB-Funch-Ginn-Brown-Norwood-Hill

I honestly think that our offensive scheme is a bit complex to learn, but once you've got a grasp on it, you can shine.  Maybe Norwood just didn't digest everything enough to justify seeing the field. I thought it was a bit odd that he dropped that one surefire TD early in the year, and then rode the pine, never to be heard from all year. I think there's a bit of a learning curve that he and Hill have had (the latter fighting injury) a hard time moving past.  I'm glad DG, RR aren't cutting ties yet and trusting that there's enough potential there that could pay off down the line.

Now, if they do snag a Lockette type of WR that blows up in OTAs and TC, then I could see one of them getting cut prior to the opening game.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
