Panthers must contain Turner

Rod Butsecks

(By David Scott, [email protected]) The last time the Carolina Panthers saw Atlanta Falcons running back span class=boldMichael Turner/span, he ran over them for 117 yards and four touchdowns.p/That came in a 45-28 victory by the Falcons against the Panthers in the Georgia Dome last November, somewhat of a typical game for Turner in what was a breakout season for him.

This is not an accurate statement. It would help if the Panthers slowed Turner down considerably but look at what the Dolphins did to him and the passing game with the addition of Gonzalez was still efficient enough to get the job done.

Yes, we know. The Falcons are an unstoppable force, if we contain Turner, Matt Ryan will throw for 400 yards... Blah.

Wow a bit touchy aren't you? All I am saying is that if you stop or slow down Turner that doesn't mean that you are going to win.

Turn down your sensitivity volume little whiney man.

You may not get your ass kicked Sunday....wait and see.

You wait and see, you better hope that Jake doesnt snap out of it and throws less than 4 interceptions.

Well he didn't throw four interceptions last year when you guys came to the dome and look what happened then. I was at that game and we controlled it the whole way through.

I probably have more faith in Jake then most posters here do. I think the guy is a good QB that wants to win.

The flacon fan is right guys. This team under fox is notorious for allowing atlanta tes to kill us. Remember crumpler drilling us early and often, always getting first on thrid. Then they would bring in duckett and just shove it down our throats.

Said this in another topic, I really believe we will plan and bottle up turner, what scares me is gonzo and his drive to prove his self. Why I dont know, but I can tell you he was nothing short of amazing against the phins.

What about when you boys came to Charlotte last year and we whipped that Buzzard Ass.

These Falcons fans are going to be eating a ton of crow when the Panthers win Sunday....and they WILL win.

I was comparing the similar situations. Carolina coming to Atlanta just as they did last season.

It's really strange to me this year because I expect Carolina to be a good team this season. After a few weeks I am sure that you all will have your act together. I think Jake just having a very bad game to start the season has thrown everyone into early panic mode because nobody was expecting it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jake has a good game against us although I am hoping that he doesn't that way Carolina feels pressured into making the wrong move and sends the team into turmoil for the whole 1st half.

What happened? What is your excuse for why your better team didn't win?

Did someone mention crow?

    • If there's another QB that came to the combine after packing on 15 lbs of water weight to hide his playing weight, I don't remember it.  I understand it's all part of the pre-draft game, and he participated. The FO was stupid and ignored huge red flags.  On a side note though, I was at the airport a few weeks ago and saw a basketball team going through and decided to try and look through them. I'm 6'2 and these guys were 6'6 and up. I was amazed by how much I couldn't see around them. And these guys weren't 300 plus in pads. I still think he's having a hell of a time seeing the field at the NFL speed.
    • There is merit to the points you're making here. On the flip side one could argue it took us investing 150 million in the oline for him to have a breakout season. And he has still yet to hit 1k rushing yards in a season. As far as Brooks goes the position does not require that significant of a draft investment for many other teams. That's not being negative it's just a matter of fact. The 49ers did quite well with a UDFA running back while McCaffrey was out. It is understandable that some people have concerns. That being said it boils down to whether or not you believe in the player. We just have to see what happens with him and Brooks.
    • Okay, that day in Vegas had to embarrass him completely. Andy showed him how to do the job.  What I think when I go there, why did it take Andy? He has had game after game of watching actual NFL QBs work and that didn't do it?  Anyhow Andy did not mess around, he stood in there and did his job and got rid of the ball ahead of the pressure. Down the field. With the same players Bryce had. Night and day.  If that didn't wake him up nothing ever would. But I don't think he has any sort of top NFL QB in him, he just lacks the full tool kit.
