He nearly cost us the Seattle game in week 6 and got destroyed in Atlanta.  He's a good effort guy and a solid backup but it's painfully clear that he will always be a liability when competing against elite speed talent.  Darryl showed so much promise last year in preseason I don't see how he shouldn't get the start.

Our loyalty to good effort guys like Bell cost us dearly, we have to stop being emotional and realize how fortunate we are that Williams feel to the 4th.

I firmly believe Gentleman will take an OT early, possibly even if they feel good about Williams. Look at what the other teams in our division are doing to beat us:

Atlanta- Beasly (Speed rusher), Collins (CB)

New Orleans- Peat (OT), Anthony (athletic LB to counter Cam), Kikaha (speed rusher)

Tampa-Winston (franchise QB), Smith (OT), Marpet (Interior lineman)

The theme is beating us on the edges and countering our front seven with linemen. We beat them by beating edge rushers and drafting edge rushers. We need to get better at both OT spots for the future and get DE's.

There is a reason they are the pros and we are the fans.  I agree I wanted to see what Williams would do as well.  There was a fair amount of hype for him throughout the preseason and training camp last year.  It could be he just wasn't ready for the stage yet?

Gettleman said it takes three years for these younger guys to be ready.  I think that might have a lot more to do with it than blind loyalty.

My history as a fan and a poster on this thread is not  one of over reactionary go with the trend arguments.  However, one dangerous trend that I have noticed with Ron Rivera, is that he rewards  "effort" linemen with starting positions.  Bryon Bell stunk it up here for 4 years and Chandler was a god awful scrub as well.

The difference with the Remmers debacle is we have a solid replacement who could blossom into a key piece of our core. I will forever be grateful for Remmers helping save the 14 season, but it does not give him the right to post up on the right side of our line and hamper our very small window to make  runs at the Lombardi.
