Why are we so against adding legitimate receiving weapons to this team? Yes, big men allow you to compete.  But that doesn't mean a surehanded speed demon won't help either. And frankly, I'm tired of seeing the consistent drops and inability to make plays with the ball in hand. I would bet this team gets the least YAC in the league. The playoff win against Arizona was what it should look like most games when you have a strong running game that includes your QB. Unfortunately that game was only an anomaly.

Not sure that we are against adding legitimate receiving weapons through the draft, only through free Agency. I think the answer to you question is the difference in cost and value. Is spending a bunch of money to bring in another WR going to be better for the team than spending that money to retain KK, Norman, Star or to be in position to retain Shaq, Kelvin, etc..

agreed.  we might have even had the top scoring offense in the league if we had more weapons.

e: okay not trying to be a low-content shitposting douche here.  the YAC and drops issues are both good points that are worthy of addressing.  however, i think rivera and gettleman want this offense built in a certain way that slightly favors possession over explosiveness, hence bringing in guys like benjamin and funchess who should be able to box out any DB in the league for a 50/50 ball but don't have elite acceleration or top end speed.  i get the impression that the coaching staff trusts brown and ginn as legitimate deep threats so we'll see where that goes.

I like some of these FA wide outs this offseason but I'm not convinced we'll grab one.

One thing is--I'm surprised no one is talking about the guy who's always played against us well: Jermaine Kearse.

That's what can get noticed by our FO and coaches when we play a team with a player who shines then becomes a FA.  He'll be less than the crop of Jeffery, Rishard Matthews, Benjamin, & Marvin Jones. Something tells me we grab Reuben Randle if we get a FA WR though.

I don't agree that bringing in one legitimate free agent threat at the WR position will prevent the team from keeping it's core players. Ginn could be released, and other moves could be made to free cap space. If Norman is on a 1 year rental, we could focus the draft on his replacement. Super Bowl windows are small. Players usually only last 3-5 years at a high level. The time to win a championship is now. Not in 4 years or so. The team has cap space on a team that just lost the super bowl. Why not go all in for a super bowl next season, and the season after that? Who knows what we'll look like in 4 years?
