Ed Dickson ranked our LVP (Lease Valuable Player)

Unfortunately, Dickson ended up grading out as the worst blocker at his position this season, his fourth consecutive year with a negative outlook in that regard from Pro Football Focus. He also failed to move the needle in Carolina's aerial attack, gaining just 7.1 yards per reception, the second-lowest mark among tight ends with at least 25 targets.

I wonder how Gettleman will handle Dickson not living up to his 'blocking TE' standards.  We'd save $1.23 mil in cap space by letting him walk, potentially replacing him with a cheaper FA or mid/late round draft selection.

There look to be several REALLY promising TEs in the draft (Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper... others).  I think a quality TE in the draft could be a great thing for us... someone to train up alongside Greg and to provide depth in case of injuries.  TE is honestly one of the positions where we don't have much depth if Greg were to ever miss a game.... Given how much we rely on him, I'd be much happier if we had better backup for him.

Re: Dickson, I remember some comment by G'man or Rivera that one of the reasons we brought him in was his Play off / Super Bowl experience with Baltimore.  After our loss to SF in 2013, our staff realized we were pretty inexperienced in the postseason.  Well... that's no longer the case.  We've won an NFCCG and been in the Super Bowl.  Might not need Dickson's experience any longer.... be good to get younger guys on board.

I am on the CUT DIXON NOW .  He was terrible at blocking.  Considering the fact that Tolbert is not much better as a blocker, we need a better option.  Dixon was despised by Raven fans for these same reasons.

In fact, I have even considered the possibility of Gettlemen drafting Hunter Henry in the first round.  Crazy, I know, but if no top DE is there, Henry would give us a 2 TE, 4 receiver set (Imagine Henry, Olsen, Benjamin, and Funchess?)   that would not only improve the run game, it would give Cam 2 big, sure-handed TEs.  Henry can improve in the blocking area, but he was solid for Arkansas' run game last year.  He could make the offense better through the air and on the ground--while grooming Olsen's eventual heir.

Not that this is what I think we should do or will happen, but Henry's impact could be huge.  (Of course, there may be lesser TEs in the draft available, but think about NE's 2 TEs a few seasons ago.  Awesome combo).

Dixon is a good Recieving TE, unfortunately we have him at a more blocking style TE.  Dixon has a terrible postseason blocking I saw him totally wife a few blocks in the Super Bowl which did not help the cause of protecting Cam.  He'd still be a top tier backup for Olsen kind of like Anderson is for Cam.  But he doesn't need to be starting at where he has been.

I want the kid from Ohio State.  He is a natural at that TE spot.  Huge athletic guy about Gronk size and speed, Top Tier blocker but really raw as a receiver.  A perfect round 3-4 guy for us.

Only loosers spell "least" as "lease".  :P

But seriously, I was actually wondering if the author was making a play on words. Like he was saying to rent or "lease" the player short term or "least" as in was not good. I just read some of it and got my answer.

I would like to draft a late round TE who is a stud blocker with athleticism and size to develop into a solid receiver. Basically, a Brandon Williams who is already a polished blocker. I haven't looked too much into who would be like that in this years draft, but there is surely a 4th or 5th rounder that fits that description. Maybe someone like this guy.

Iowa TE's definitely know how to block though he lacks athleticism.
