I think it's hilarious, this dude says they root for schools they never attended, and says he's literally never been anywhere where it's like that but here.  LOLZ, try South Carolina.  Half of Gamecock fans have ZERO affiliation with the school.  This one guy I know roots for Florida State because he lived in Florida, but has zero affiliation with the school.  It happens everywhere, this female I know roots for Syracuse, lives in Charlotte, was raised in New York.  ZERO to do with Syracuse.  Maybe you need to meet more people NJ Panthers.  Dude, it happens everywhere, to think it only happens in NC is dumb.  It's the whole bandwagon logic, it's a dumb logic to begin with.

You sound silly saying you basically have to attend the school to be a fan. Dumbest thing I've heard in a while. By your logic I had play for the panthers to be a fan too.

It wasn't me that said that, it was NJ Panthers that said NC is the only place where that happens, read the other post.  I was laughing at how stupid that logic is.

Nailed it, most people in our society don't have thick enough skin to stick it out when the hard times hit and the lack of loyalty is amplified when they have no monetary ties to that program.

1. Carolina Panthers - Football is my favorite sport to watch, plus it's the home state team. No brainer, here.

2. Atlanta Braves - Grew up watching this team in the late 90's, plus it's my favorite sport to play. Grew up playing, and it's also the first sport I got into. 

3. Charlotte Hornets/New Orleans Pelicans - Started out as a hornets fan. Uncle was a season ticket holder and took me to a ton of games. My uncle is pretty well off, and I grew up without much so going to these games were a great getaway from the dangers that presented itself in urban Winston Salem. Followed the team to New Orleans because I moved to the MS Gulf Coast right as they were leaving Charlotte (ironically, Charlotte got a new team as I was moving back to NC for college), so it was a sweet deal to me. I can't let them go, but I root for both teams.

4. Wake Forest football & basketball - just a Winston Salem thing, and me having pride in my city. Plus I grew up with CP3 and Josh Howard playing ball at the YMCA. 

5. North Carolina A&T football - my alma mater. That's pretty much my reason. Best and largest HBCU in the nation, and has the best football team out of all the HBCU's

States like Kentucky, West Virginia, and Alabama do not have professional sports teams so the university is their Pro team
