Cool, so you just paid a guy for two years what you could pay him for 4. I doubt Getty feels the same as you.

But he takes up zero cap space here during the worst years of his career. It's not just about money, but also a  roster spot and cap space. There is always doubt when you make an uncertain prediction, but that's part of the fun.

I believe the CB projection for this year is $13.1 million, so year two would be $15.7 million and $28.8 total for the two years. Josh wouldn't take that for three years, much less four.

Gettleman will never give Norman top dollar. 

I'd  tag him this year, and next, then review the team's options at that point.

Tag him this year and "threaten" next. By that point age will be a concern for other teams since he will be close to being OLD at 30.  Norman probably won't receive as big a deal at 30 as he will without being franchised twice. Use that for leverage and get him into a 4 year deal, with a decent but not ridiculous guarantee up front. I think we end up getting him signed after the tag has been applied, 4 yr 41.4 mill with 23 guaranteed and some really nice incentives to bump it up further based on performance.

Tag him and work on a deal.  4 or 5 year deal will get the most out of him before he starts to dwindle off in talent.

I think he's going to be franchise tagged, just a question of what happens after. One interesting option is they could put the "non-exclusive" tag on him and get two first round picks in return if/when he signs elsewhere. I could see a team with a lot of cap room making that move, and gettlemen with extra 1st round picks is almost unfair to the rest of the league.

I was wondering the same thing.  I'm assuming that some type of negotiating is going on right now?  Anyone know when the deadline is for applying the tag?
