Fred Lane story.

Lane never got the opportunity to play for the Colts. On July 5, 2000, he made a phone call to his father telling him that he wanted to sell his motorcycle because he needed the cash. His wife Deidra had been spending money faster than he could make it and he was desperate for cash. He father did not want him to return to his former home because it was his wife who was truly the abuser in the relationship as several of Fred's friends and family have said. Despite his father's plea for him to wait, he went to his former home to pick up his motorcycle on July 6, 2000. That was the last day anyone would see him alive again.

On July 6, 2000, he was shot and killed by his wife Deidra during an alleged domestic dispute. Law enforcement investigators believe Lane shot her husband moments after he arrived at their Mecklenburg home for the $5 million in life insurance he carried. He is survived by his daughter and stepson.

Deidra pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter. She claimed that Fred emotionally and physically abused her; however the judge ruled that the shooting was premeditated and that she deliberately shot Fred twice, even though the first shot rendered him helpless. The judge determined that those factors outweighed the alleged abuse and gave her eight years in prison, the maximum sentence allowed. She served her sentence at Raleigh Correctional Center for Women[1]. She was released on March 3, 2009

Basically she is a piece of garbage who killed a good man just for the insurance money.

I do business to business sales in a city in SC. I met with this attractive lady and sold our services to her new business. She signs the service agreement......Deidre Lane.

I paused for a second since I just read and saw that Deidra Lane was released from prison like three weeks prior. Couldn't be her, this lady was attractive and seemed like she had a good head on her shoulders. I looked at Miss Lane's mugshot and could not tell if it was her or not.

I told everyone I know about this and one of my co -workers finally just asked her when we were visiting her business......Yatzee!!

I just cannot believe she has kept Fred's name..........we will not be pissing her off any time soon!

    • If there's another QB that came to the combine after packing on 15 lbs of water weight to hide his playing weight, I don't remember it.  I understand it's all part of the pre-draft game, and he participated. The FO was stupid and ignored huge red flags.  On a side note though, I was at the airport a few weeks ago and saw a basketball team going through and decided to try and look through them. I'm 6'2 and these guys were 6'6 and up. I was amazed by how much I couldn't see around them. And these guys weren't 300 plus in pads. I still think he's having a hell of a time seeing the field at the NFL speed.
    • There is merit to the points you're making here. On the flip side one could argue it took us investing 150 million in the oline for him to have a breakout season. And he has still yet to hit 1k rushing yards in a season. As far as Brooks goes the position does not require that significant of a draft investment for many other teams. That's not being negative it's just a matter of fact. The 49ers did quite well with a UDFA running back while McCaffrey was out. It is understandable that some people have concerns. That being said it boils down to whether or not you believe in the player. We just have to see what happens with him and Brooks.
    • Okay, that day in Vegas had to embarrass him completely. Andy showed him how to do the job.  What I think when I go there, why did it take Andy? He has had game after game of watching actual NFL QBs work and that didn't do it?  Anyhow Andy did not mess around, he stood in there and did his job and got rid of the ball ahead of the pressure. Down the field. With the same players Bryce had. Night and day.  If that didn't wake him up nothing ever would. But I don't think he has any sort of top NFL QB in him, he just lacks the full tool kit.
