I want CJ to get reworked, don't wanna rely on a rookie  starting opposite kony. Maybe grab another vet DE to add to the rotation

William Hayes.  These links literally about make my pants move.

He could save $11m by cutting CJ.

However, the $4m dead money would hurt--if we rework his deal--a three year deal around $18m, Keeping CJ this year would only cost the Panthers an additional $2m if you look at it that way.   Curse you, Marty Hurney.

Cursed on Hurney no doubt but I say cut the ties.  His production isn't worth the money we would be paying him.   I realize he is good against the run but IMO his sacks are declining in a hurry and we can find better, younger.

Good point.  Whatever happens, I trust Gettleman completely.

G-Man is gonna send Johnson packing and Allen is already retired. We desperately need a starter opposite Ealy. We need to make a run at Vernon or JPP. I hope to god we're not relying on a rookie to start because no one from the draft is starter material right out the gate.

William Hayes from the Rams. NC native. Filled in good for Chris Long. Shouldn't be expensive.

I for one was surprised that all five of the suggested moves were on the defensive side of the ball although that was definitely the older side of the ball.

Personally, I'd put OT adding competition/depth and adding a true slot WR in the top 5. For a slot WR, we need someone who is both quick and fast, gets open consistently, and has good hands.

Getting the ball out of Cam's hands quickly has to be a priority next season, because every team in the league is going to try to defend us like Denver.  And while no other teams have that unique collection of talent, it means that Cam is certainly going to see more pressure and take more hits. So we need a slot WR who can consistently beat man coverage.  I suggest Pharoh Cooper in the 2nd round, but I'm a bit biased there.

I don't know who Bill Barnwell is but this is a pretty good article. I can't disagree with any of it. Surely Allen announced his retirement after this was posted.

Out of the 5 points he makes; restructuring CJs contract would be huge. Not sure I see that happening but could you imagine if it did!?

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
