Sounds to me like he was gunning for Eugene's job and the Panthers told him, no.  Or he got fired. 

Being a sideline reporter for 6 months isn't that big a commitment away from your family.

Will miss his presence, but you can't blame the guy for wanting to spend more time with his family after devoting most of his life to football.

Nothing was better than his podcast when he was still playing. I think because he was a teammate, his guests were much more candid. I always noticed more of a hesitation when he was doing it for TWC or whatever.

Covering a sports team is a fuggin grind. Can't blame the guy, but sucks for fans because his perspective was unmatched.

My uncle saw him on "This is Gross" a while back and thought he had gotten over cancer or something.  He just doesn't look right skinny
