Lots of teams in the East pissing away opportunities this season with the conference being so weak.

Charlotte being one of them

The conference isn't nearly as weak as it used to be. While it lacks serious title threats outside of Cleveland, the parity between spots 3-13 is too close to call at this point.

All of those teams at some point held playoff aspirations before the season.

The difference between Boston (3) and Charlotte (8) is only four games, while the difference between Charlotte and Milwaukee (13) is only 5.5. With 29 games to go, everything is still up in the air.

And yeah, you could use that argument to justify bringing Howard in, but consider Charlotte is here without MKG and Al for long stretches, and if not for a stretch in January when everyone was injured and in the middle of a West Coast road trip, they might be in even better shape.

The biggest needs for the Hornets right now are health and an adequate MKG replacement. They (hopefully) got both over the break.

For what Houston was asking, the Dwight deal is one you make if you feel like you're one piece away from a championship. For the Hornets, their goal was always to simply get back to the playoffs and win a game, and if they can stay healthy and most importantly avoid LeBron for as long as possible, they might still be able to make things interesting.

we offered Jefferson and Hawes for Dwight - that was probably the best offer they got and they turned it down.

Jefferson hopefully can come back now and contribute. We have been playing some good ball lately (7-3) and if we continue while other teams flounder (Bulls, Heat) we can move up into the top 4-5 range. Batum should slide to the SF position with Courtney Lee starting at the SG spot.
