Davidson, Scherer working to get Panthers' offense in gear

Oh yeah preseason could have really predicted that Jake would throw 4 picks given he threw 0 in the preseason. I guess the preseason would predict we would struggle against the pass but somehow we gave up very few yards.

I guess the preseason predicted the DTs would suck but somehow they played fairly good in the Eagles game.

The only consistent issues were giving up a special teams TD and Goodson fumbling. Otherwise the issues were completely different.

Amazing.......

185 yards rushing

not exactly what I'd call dominant defensive line play, i mean, if you want to evaluate the defense from this last game, considering what they had to deal with. I wouldn't normally make any judgment on them considering the circumstances, positive or negative.

I would agree that the defense were in situations we will hopefully not face in future games. It was a completely bizarre game. Even most of the running yards were after the game was totally decided. It is hard to tell much from this game.

I wouldn't put too much stock into their taking time teaching Feeley some plays. They're just saying that if it comes down to him being put in, he knows a portion of the playbook. We didn't sign him to be our #2, I don't think we even brought him in with the intention of him taking a snap, we signed him to complete our stable of QBs. I think Matt Moore is the unquestioned #2 man right now. Feeley provides a veteran presence and maybe he can tutor Moore a little bit. He can also be the veteran headset man that Jake didn't have in Moore or McCown (niether of whom has spent significant time as a backup). And this I say without a hint of sarcasm or venom, but there is probably no one in this league who has spent as much time as Feeley on the sideline; he's seen it all and can call it like he sees it.

But the reality is that many of the things people were whining about weren't issues on Sunday. The things that bit us on Sunday weren't issues for the most part in the preseason. So the point was valid that the preseason had little to do with the regular season.

jake was inconsistent in the preseason, didn't score a TD vs a first team offense, and had numerous balls that should have been picked off

they couldn't protect him in the preseason

the defense couldn't stop anyone

the special teams was atrocious

all these things played themselves out on sunday. now i know that the defense didn't give up atrocious numbers, but that's because they weren't there to be had. the eagles first team had completely figured out the defense by their second drive, and if it weren't for an ugly drop by brent celek, or a miracle dive by thomas davis, that game would have been even more over by halftime.

don't try to convince yourself otherwise. the defense was just as bad.
