Salary cap is expected to jump to at least $155M this year. Nearly $12M more than last year's ($143.28M).

more cap doesn't mean more money to spend it just means players will want more money.  It will average out.

Both is true. But whats important is that the position that would demand the most money is already locked up. By the time Cam is the 3rd or 4th year what we're paying him is gonna be a ridiculous steal.

22.3 Million. Plus 8.5 once Allen is released. so we should be right at 30 Million. Cutting CJ would put free up another 11 Million, giving us over 40 Million.

Our roll over in unused cap almost covers our dead money this year thus far.

Here is every teams cap space based on a 154 million projection. We are 20th in cap space according to Spotrac. I'm sure other teams have ways to create extra cap as well but if we did release Johnson we'd move up to 8th in cap space.

Sweet. I Like CJ and allen but gettleman with 4 mil to spend kind of makes me Feel tingly.

Yes Allen is 100% gone. CJ in my estimation is 80% gone.

I'm 50/50 on Stewart. I tend to think he will stay as I don't see Gettleman needing any more money than he has already. Dead money cost to cut Stewart this year is 7.3 vs his cap hit of 9.5. So it really only nets us 2 million to cut him. Of course you can spread the dead money over 2 years, but again I don't think we have a need for  additional immediate relief. So if we wait till next next year its 3.5 million in dead money. Waiting till next year saves us 4 million over 2 years, plus we get to use his services one last season.

I'm kinda feeling like some people are setting themselves up for a big disappointment during the free agency period.  I mean, if they're expecting much of a "splash" that is.

The 'splash' I'm looking for is reupping some of our own (like Star and Short).

There's not any outside free agent's worth more to us more so than Norman or locking up KK long term. If we make those internal splashes and find upgrades to the departing players it will be an awesome offseason.

It's already expected he'll be franchised.

Thats just a pre-cursor to trying to hammer out a long term deal( at least I think). Just curious if you think we should lock him up long term now (assuming we can) or wait a year and let it play out some more?

My main reason, other than he's a top 3 corner in the league, is its a waste of money to sign to him to a 1 year fully guaranteed franchise tag, when you have to either let him walk next year or pay even more money to keep him, when you could have invested in him up front.

For example, Sherman got 40 million guaranteed on a 5 year deal. If we franchise Norman at 14 Milliion  thats 32% of it right there.

Assuming his play remains similar, if he's a free agent again next year he will still want a big contract (including guaranteed money)  and he's not going to credit us nor should he for the 14 Million we already spent.

How so? This wasn't a shock to anybody in the front office? It's really only 1 more million than what was expected by spotrac.

You just raised the cap by 14 million and you want me to take a paycut even though we have enough to sign everyone here?  That might be a hard sale.
