Got a Twitter alert this morning about Eric Weddle

I'm not against it, actually would like to see him brough in.

at the same time- when are we going to see Boston get an opportunity as a full time starter? It seems we keep bringing in stopgap after stopgap instead of offering the job to Boston. I'm fine with competition, but if we bring in Weddle it's a clear sign that Boston will never be a full time starter for us.

When he has convinced the coaches he is the best option. Since he was drafted we brought in Coleman so it's only happened once. I'd say Coleman is not really a stop gap and was clearly the best FS on the team.

If want to call him  SS then nobody has been brought in since he was drafted. Harper was already here.

One of the comments mentioned that Weddle had put himself above the team in recent years.  If true, that wouldn't fit well with our locker room chemistry.  On the other hand, it may just be sour grapes from a fan who's unhappy that he's leaving SD.  I think the Panthers staff has shown they have what it takes to get to the truth of it.

I think this is just the kind of target that G-man will look at.  With his age, a long term contract is probably not in the works for him, if you can get him on a 2-3 year reasonable contract, he will fill out our need at Safety.

I'm saying right now, I think Gettleman will have Safety and DE "addressed" by the draft so he has the opportunity to go BPA up and down the draft.

I think it's important to note that we are trying to get more youthful in the secondary not exchange a 33 year old for a 31 year old

I hope the idea is to get better not just younger.

Well, he went to Utah...so he's gotta be ours at some point.

If he's willing to play another year or two, I think he'd take a decent contract and chase a ring here with his old coaches.  Also retweeted Olsen's beard shaving pictures, so he could have Kalil/Olsen to talk beards with next season.

For those saying he's old? Yeah, he was 1st team All-Pro in 2014. I'd say he has some gas left.

Just watched a NFL Top 100 on him. He ranked #86 (the # is irrelevant to me). Would love to see our D with him at FS. Want to see Tre as much as anyone, but if you can get a guy like Weddle you take him. He'd become a fan favorite almost immediately because of his style of play. Can still rotate Tre in and I think Weddle will really bring another level of leadership to that group.

    • They gave him franchise QB money. Sorry but if you don't earn it you can be embarrassed.   He's rich he can take it. Stop feeling sorry for people who can't live up to their contract. This isn't a sport to be soft. Daniels deserves to give back some of that money he stole if you ask me.
    • And it was coming off of a bye week. Perhaps he should vacation a bit in Germany in the off season, something certainly seemed to help him there.  No, really... He showed maturation and the possibility that he's turning a corner. That wasn't the NY Giants out there, but the back to back Super Bowl champions with the #3 defense in the league, with them coming off of a prime time loss. And that was a 9-1 team we just played literally down to the last second. Bryce played so well that maybe, maybe he wins over some nay-sayers. It's still early, though, but what a nice breath of fresh air that was. You can win quite a few games if that is your normal performance. It is obvious that we are still on the learning curve, though. But that was one helluva test he just took. Some of these QBs coming out of college just don't have a lot of games under their belts, especially in top end programs. They are perhaps just a year to two years behind center in games that matter before they move up. It can take them some time to hit their stride. We can still be cautious about our future and still celebrate a great game by the kid, though, and we should. He earned the laurels today, or had before they were snatched away at the last second.
