Let's talk about Ted Ginn Jr.

Everyone can put forth effort, football is not only about making the easy play taking what's given...sometimes it about taking what others can not see is possible, out willing the other man, what your mind thinks is possible along with your body.

That will summarize every rebuttal that I'll possibly have.

Yeah, Ginn's not trucking anybody.

Ginn was not the only issue here, Tolbert, Gano, Remmers, Cotchery and the offense showed that lack of preparedness that I was afraid would show.. Denver showed why they are the #1 rated D and the game was relatively close until the 3rd with the great D in the face..Our Defense did their part.. the offense was just overwhelmed and not prepared with gimmicky plays..

Another factor I think is that Cam was held back under the reigns of conservatism of Shula play calling..It seems like Shula said trust me and Cam was not happy with the calls being called to him..But he went with it as it was his first superbowl and us as fans saw the Shula bowl in effect with stupid runs up the center every damn series!!

But Ginn needs to stay..we have good receivers no matter what others outside of Panther land think!

I would prefer a speedster who can actually catch consistently. Sterling Shepherd or Bralon Addison would be cool in the 2nd round. Ginn is obviously serviceable though given his 10 TDs and like 8 catches over 30 yards which... almost negates his constant dropping. However, I think he's a mediocre punt returner and it'd be nice to find someone else to go there (both draft picks I mentioned could do it). He runs to the side too often and almost never makes anyone miss. I don't know why we don't stick him on kick returns where you basically just pick a lane and run at it as fast as you can. He can't possibly be worse than Fozzy or Webb.

As a commentator mentioned about Ginn.  What he does to a defense is hard to find.  His explosiveness is amazing.  The drops are going to occur.  You have to take the bad with the good.  10 TDs.

The drops are a concern and he needs to keep getting better at catching the ball first but his speed is too much to overlook.   I look forward to him being on the field with Funchess and KB at the same time.  We had teams focusing on him and Cam still got him the ball.  Imagine when defenses have to account for KB.  Can't double every one.

That said, I think Brown has the capability to stretch a defense too and is a much better route runner.

Philly Brown concussed himself to extend a drive that Ginn ruined by dropping a pass that led to an interception.  I don't even want to think about Ginn right now.  If he's here next season, fine whatever, we're desperate.  If he's not, I'm not going to miss him.  We spent weeks wondering if Ginn's hands would cost us, and that's exactly what happened.  It's a shame that he knows his hands are his only problem and he can't do anything to fix them, but I hope it's not Carolina's problem next season.

Ginn is a great value for a very reasonable price. It isn't that we couldn't replace him so much as he bring a lot to the table for very little.  He stepped up and played as our number 1 receiver and had a very productive year.  Imagine what he will do out of the slot next year. Maybe put Ginn in the slot and Philly in motion.  I don't see us getting into a bidding war for Jefferies.  Or that bringing in a high priced free agent receiver is needed with Funchess and Benjamin already on the roster. I would think a big cost free agent pickup would be more on the defensive side than the offense. Just a feeling I get.

Gettleman has shown repeatedly throughout his tenure with us that he's more than willing to jettison players who aren't doing their jobs. Gettleman doesn't care much for things like feelings and sentimentality, or if he does he doesn't let it get in the way of running a football operation. Anytime a player's underperformed in some way that cripples the team, and that player is easily replaceable, Gettleman has been willing to let him go.

What does this say about Ted Ginn?

In a lot of ways I think Ginn is a fan favorite. He was actually one of my favorite players last year, because despite his drops he was a big play kind of guy and gave us that over-the-top threat we'd been missing from the year before. For every overtime drop against the Colts you had a clutch 60-yard touchdown on a third down crossing pattern, and it was the clutch 60 yard touchdown I think most of us remembered.

But I can't help but think Gettleman also sees the drops. They cost us in the big game. Even if we tag Norman, Gettleman will have enough cap space to do some damage in free agency. If he views wide receiver as a position that needs to be upgraded (it's actually possible Kelvin Benjamin doesn't return to his rookie form) and goes after someone like Alshon Jeffrey, then suddenly a guy like Ginn becomes expendable.

Should Ginn be worried?

I don't think he should be worried THIS SEASON, but he may not be on the roster in 2017 if he doesn't reduce the drops. I see him starting opposite of Benjamin next season.

Ginn is ideal for punt returner and #3/#4 guy.  No reason he shouldn't be here next year.  Also with KB and Funch as probably the two main guys this gives more rest for Ginn, so he'll be able to save up even more speed when we need it.  For what he's supposed to be (again... a punt returner and #3/#4 guy) Ginn is DAMN good.  I highly doubt we'll find someone better in that role for next season.
