It wasn't so much as expected as it was automatic.

It was built into the contract from the start. Kalil has the exact same thing in his deal after next year and Stewart the year after. The purpose is to spread out signing bonus proration to give more immediate cap relief at the time the deals were signed or restructured.

Gettleman also did it with Gross's contract and that's part of the reason he retired.

Kind of low if they were still teammates at the time, you know before this contract stuff. That's just my opinion.
