Harper's contract was set up like this from the start. This was basically a dummy year built into the contract to spread out his signing bonus, lowering his cap hit the previous two seasons.

It's intentional and planned. Basically we had 2M in extra cap space over the previous 2 season (when we were really cap screwed) and shifted the cap charge into this year, when we will have much much more space to work with.

estimated cap space now 21.3 mill, and that includes J Allens 8.5 million hit if we decide to keep him.  We're looking at nearly 30 mill in cap space if he retires or we cut him.

Dave Gettleman added voidable yrs on Harper and Cotchery contracts for cap relief. Both voided today. So they'll be free agents in March.
