DE targets for this draft

3 more DEs I'm curious about as they could have been available in 3rd - 4th rounds of the draft on some of the mock drafts I was playing with yesterday were:

YANNICK NGAKOUE, Maryland.

JAMES COWSER Southern Utah, and

RONALD BLAIR, App State.

Any thoughts on these guys?  I was just reading profiles.  Know nothing about them other than what I read.

How did Nkemdiche end up off the list? He's being mocked in the late teens. I think there is almost an impossible scenario where he falls to us. But goodness. He'd probably be in my top 5 players. Idc about the character issue. Stick him in our locker room and he'd be fine.

He's a DT. This thread is about DEs.

gain another 15 more lbs. why not?

addison is 6'3" 270

I don't like them that short.  Addison is just a situational UDFA.  Sign this guy as an UDFA?  Sure.  Spend a first or second day draft pick?  Nope.  6'4 is my preferred floor, unless he has disproportionately long arms for someone that short.

Yea, I've only watched one video on him so I didn't wanna do my write up yet, but he looks very impressive.  Size wise, 6'3, 271 is skirting the edge of my "too short" rule, but he doesn't look short in the video.  His get off is very quick and I didn't see anyone push him around really.  My initial impression is I would also really like him at 30.

Nassib and Dodd.  Are my 1a and b right now so far watching the combine.

Ogbah just shot his self out of range and some have said some question his drive taking some plays off.

Still Nassib reconfirms as possibly my top choice at our spot.  Getting high praises at the combine 6'7 277 and just ran a faster 40 than Bosa and one the fastest 10 yard split (fastest among DL until Ogbah).

Over on the Panthers forum, I posted a thread with a consensus ranking of all the top DEs using the 7 more recent Fanspeak site Big Boards, plus a big board I created using the grades at NFL.com's draft tracker (sorting all the players from highest grade, to lowest grade.)

Here's the table:  (I took the top 20 DEs from each board and then sorted the players, calculating an average ranking for each from each of the different rankings on the various boards).  Here are 24 players who showed up on at least 3 of the draft boards among the top 20 DEs, sorted by average rank, best to worst.

    • For the silly people that worship her it will be that.  The Coleman 'legend' thing, they did that with another fairly average player that was here and I sort of mocked or questioned the 'legend' status. Instantly caught crap for insulting someone's favorite Panther. So okay, Kurt Coleman is a Legend.
    • You allow him to compete--you all are talking as if I am proposing making him the starter. Give him a new coach, new weapons, good OL, etc. and see what happens. You are saying, "Well Damn.  It did not work for 3 guys..."  Right now, our C is injured, we lost our top 2 WRs.  Better question:  If you need a QB, Why would you not take a chance on bringing in a QB who was a former first rounder, a good arm, intelligence, mobility, youth, etc.  and see how he does out of NY--with a better OL, better running game, better receivers.  I am not saying give him a 10-year contract, I am saying give him a chance. You act like there is no improvement on offense here--it was a 2 year process, and next year is year 2.  To me, how can you sit there with Bryce and an opportunity to sign a veteran QB on the cheap comes available and you say--"Not us. We're good.  We are waiting for Patrick Mahommes."  Jone's problem is obviously mental--and he has little support.  Why is this so frigging hard to comprehend.  It is called "bottom fishing" and it is better than sitting in the boat.
    • I think we're going to fall from behind quite early and be forced to abandon the run game.  3 rushes -2 yards 1 catch -10 yards
