Moreso he is just reverting back to who he always was honestly. He all but led the anti Newton wagon in 2011.

I'm not anti-Newton in the slightest, I just think he needs to develop some mental toughness. I do agree that the Panthers are dancing around it and it has the potential to backfire as it enables him.

If not agreeing with you at every turn is "devolving" as poster then I'll wear it like a badge of honor.

I love Cam as our QB and as a pillar of the community, but it doesn't mean I have to like or agree with everything he does. You can cup his manhood in your palms if it makes you feel better, I'll just continue to call it as I see it and not give a second thought to what your stance may be.

Laughing at you morons that are still going on about this. What is this, is Cam freaking Justin Bieber to some of you? You're acting like Bieber fans, One Direction fans, Donald Trump fans....just let it go, good LORD.

Wouldn't it be a more achievable goal for you to "let go" of insisting on others letting go. I mean if it really bothers you this bad just bow out of the conversation. Many of us have invested in this team emotionally and financially and everyone has the right to deal with this loss in their on way and time without fellow fans telling us how to react.

From our favorite new villain on Twitter:

interesting nugget I found out today - you know how cam takes FOOOOORRREVER to get dressed after a game? NFL didn't allow that Sun

he didn't get his hour-+ shower to cool down. That + SB loss = that. To me, that's a bigger reason than hearing DEN players.

This is getting old, but oh look, another monkey wrench in the narrative. You can say he still shouldn't have done what he did, and maybe you're right, but again: that it has become *this* big of a deal is ridiculous. You'd think he went on a 6 minute rant of expletives and excuses after telling Peyton to go fug himself at midfield. Even the commonly used phrase "stormed off" is a misrepresentation of what happened. He got up and left. That's it.

Also, for what it's worth, Bill has backed up his statements a little:

Quote

was some of the phrasing - baby, man up - a bit far? probably. and i shouldn’t have said panthers are allowing it.

I think that's the part most people have a problem with. In the first 11 minutes of that interview, it was impossible to distinguish between him and your run-of-the-mill hot taker. And unfortunately (for him) those are basically the only parts that got transcribed into the article being passed around. Not that the rest of the interview exonerates him, but he does try to swing back towards a more balanced view, which, in my opinion, he's been pretty fair about doing (and that's another reason I think he's getting so much backlash -- it's "out of character" for him). Probably didn't help that the host was asking fairly leading questions as well.

To be honest, I'm not going to stop reading/following him because of one hiccup. He does provide good content in a world where that's becoming increasingly rare. Like with Cam, every situation doesn't have to be so polarizing.

You're seeing a lot of blossoming resentment from fans of teams who sincerely hoped their team would field the next face of the league who dominated the game for the next 10+ years. A lot of that resentment is is more obviously manifested not only form the contingent of people who hoped Cam would fail, but from fans of teams who, quite frankly, haven't been anything approaching relevancy in a long time.

The fact that it's "us"-the Panthers who are doing it when we aren't supposed to, that we have an attitude like this that will solidify our role near the top of the league for a long time-it bothers people. Voth, as a life-long Browns fan-fits perfectly into that contingent. Manziel isn't the new face of the league. Their organization has made some terrible decisions, and the Panthers have a swagger about them that Cleveland, nor any other team, possess. If you look around on some messagre boards and comments elsewhere, you'll see a growing frustration at the Panther's battle cry: Keep Pounding. "Why do the Panthers have that strong motto? Shouldn't my favorite team? Or at leat the Steelers? Or Patriots?" Why are the Panthers the team that refuses to accept losing.

The ultimate reality, though, is that their opinions are meaningless, just like Voth's. The Panthers, led by their QB-ARE the team that refuses to accept failure-and they are going to be good for a very long time because of it. Voth, and the fans of those teams who cry about it, are simply going to have to deal how to cope with it. In essence, "Deal with it."

Wow this is a fantastic post. Great job man I completely agree.

I used to respect Voth but after this he has completely lost my respect.

I thought he was different than the other sport journalists these days but he just the same as the others so FUG him

Jonathan Jones and this site will be my only sources for Panther news.

Um it looks like you gave it a second thought because you are here trying to defend it.

If you don't think the guy is mentally tough after witnessing all that he has endured the last 5 years, you can go root for another team as far as I'm concerned, because that is the biggest crock of poo I've ever read here.

Voth took it too far, he made it personal. Crying foul now only makes him look like the one who truly needs to "man up".

If he decides to correct himself on his comments, that would be probaby go a long way. He could easily have simply said he wished that Newton had handled it differently without all the other jabs about the guy as a man included. That is unprofessional. Period.

    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
