Bill Voth: "Panthers Are Allowing Cam To Look Like A Baby."

Host: Is that your relationship with him, combative?

BV: "That is completely and 100% accurate. That's what it is. He bristles at almost everything. And as you can probably imagine, Charlotte's not the toughest media market in the world, so imagine if this guy had to play in a New York, or a Philly, or a place that really goes after their athletes. Cam is beloved here in Charlotte. So, he has it easy here and this is how he treats the media? We are not allowed to talk to Cam, we're essentially not allowed to approach him at his locker. Okay yeah maybe technically we're allowed, but the evil stares and the glances. And I think it's really unfortunate that the wall and the bubble was put up from day 1 since he came to the Panthers."

Talks about how he'll talk once a week and after practices, but won't do one on ones even with national media except in extremely rare circumstances, because if he does one one one then other people will expect it. "Nobody here has a relationship with him." Asks who has a relationship with him nationally. Says even Belichick has friends in the media, but Cam doesn't and hasn't allowed anyone into that circle.

LOL Voth is a toolbag and an idiot...

Yea the NY Media really let into OBJ after he tried to murder Norman on the field...all you heard from stars, ex players, and their media was more anti Panther bullshit and trying to blame it on Norman or justify it in any sort of way. fug you hypocrite(voth no tthe poster).

Yeah, it was a response. I m not apologizing for being disrespectful after being disrespected.

Funny that someone else referred to you as the same with different language within the same 24 hour period. LOL

That's called hypocrisy top dawg.

This would be such a non-issue if people hadn't previously thought Voth would take a different stance.  What he's saying isn't much removed from the crap we've had to hear the Observer / [insert national media outlet here] spew about Cam for years.  He's not even the first local guy to sour me a little this way (I still like Voth and I hope this is a phase instead of becoming yet another professional Cam detractor / unsolicited indirect life advice giver)

For now I just put him in the "shrug and wander off without reading his stuff" category.  The sad part, really, is that as an independent journalist he probably does care about traffic.  Myself?  I'm taking a bit of a break from his site - not because I don't think he should be allowed to voice his opinions but because they aren't even in the same ballpark as mine on this and I don't choose to support them.

I love when the media feels the need to enlighten us on "integrity" and "responsibility" and "doing the right thing", etc.

Roll On The Floor Laughing My Ass Off

And don't even get me going on sweet Peytie's free pass. What he said/did after the game is far more embarrassing than anything Cam said or did.

So I guess the Pats are allowing Belichick and Brady to act like babies based on some of their press conference behavior?

It's a press conference... guys like Voth rely on press conferences to put food on their table so I understand the sensitivity, but it's a press conference.

I really enjoy Voth's work mostly because he's an exception to the hot take sports media, but this is a classic hot take and I'm severely disappointed.

Can we all please stop attacking each other and focus our attacks on Voth? This is just what he wants!

Yeah while everyone is sitting here bickering he actually has more followers now.  I unfollowed him after I read about his history in this thread.

The black on black crime interjection was incredibly egregious and all I can really do is ShakeMyDamnHead at that.  C'mon man.

No, it's called doing exactly what I've always said. You talk to me, or about me, with respect, and I will do the same.  I have told you this very thing (probably) years ago. So there is nothing hypocritical about it.

What do journalists do when they feel someone has attacked their journalistic "integrity"?

They go on the defensive, and often via legal means.

But to question the integrity of an athlete as a man simply because he is upset after the biggest loss of his career, and didn't want to answer repeated tired cliche questions about how he "feels" while the winning team talks poo literally right next to him is just totally fair, huh?

You say all this, yet you expect Cam to talk to the media when they have disrespected him his whole career. To me, that is very hypocritical. You're holding that man to a standard that you don't even go by

There is a difference between insulting someone and giving constructive criticism---respectfully discussing an opinion, and backing it up, than gratuitous name calling and insinuation about one's life, character and integrity. That is what Nolan Nawrocki basically did to Cam Newton before he could even get in the pros.  That is disrespectful. If you are trying to tell me that every member of the media has disrespected Cam, I will tell you that's undeniably untrue.

As a professional football player in the NFL, like it or not, part of your job is to interact with the media with a certain amount of social decorum and professional interaction. This interaction (fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on one's perspective) is a big part of the reason why the popularity of the NFL has increased exponentially over the years. Media interaction comes with the territory, and sometimes everything said is not going to be agreeable to the player or anyone else. But that's to be expected. It's part of the job. Not only Cam, but any player is held to that standard. Needless to say, being called a "slob" or any other such unfounded and unnecessary foolishness goes not only beyond that standard, but also the standard of the Huddle (supposedly).
