Ted Ginn Jr. Running Out of Bounds

Ginn has been great for us, but he isn't physically or mentally tough. The defender cutting him off was Talib. If anyone else (Funch, Olsen, Stewart, Tolbert, Newton) had been in that position they would have run right at him and put him on the ground for what he did to Philly. And they would have picked up another five yards doing it. I love Ginn, but that was a cowardly play and likely cost us points.

I think he's definitely one of the guys that wants to maintain longevity in his career by avoiding the unnecessary hits.  Which in hindsight will be smart. However I just can't help but think why he didn't at least make the effort.  We can talk all day about how the guys had him closed in and everything. However we've seen plenty of plays in football where a guy makes the .01% chance miracle happen.  Going out of bounds takes it to a complete 0% chance...under your own will.

Not worried about it. The way the ball was being fumbled all night, I'm glad he got out of bounds

ALSO that was another thought I had, maybe with the way the game was going with all of the TO's he figured it'd be best to play it safe. That's the best I could think up thus far.

And again I acknowledge that Ginn has far surpassed many expectations this season...but that specific play makes me itch.

Non story for me.  The secondary had the angle on him and he wouldn't have gotten much further if any at all.  Our entire offense stunk and so did the special teams, coaches play calling and NFL officiating.  It is what it is as our legendary coach of the previous decade used to say.

Yeah at the end of the day it's all pointless banter, even if he got on here and explained it himself. We got out played, out coached and were out numbered as fans, I won't even touch on refs/conspiracy... we lost, they won. It just understandably hurts and I'm looking at every wrinkle that decided our outcome, to see what could've been done.

looked like the safety had closed the angle on him.

How many people had an angle on him when he made that big play vs AZ?  Pretty  sure half the team had an angle.

Even old slow Cotchery finishes runs

This occurred to me as well and thought he couldve at least powered through another 5-7 yards. Then again, the thought of fumbling popped in my mind too, but I think it's the initial angle that he took toward the sideline that bothered me.

It's kind of a non-factor, but I also think about Cam's last INT when Ginn could've played the ball a little more. The pass wasn't full on target, but I feel like it was a little bit of alligator arms too. Like catchable, but a little out of reach.

Regardless, Ginn was not an issue for me either in this game. Just a couple of questionable plays. I really wish Shula would've figured out a way to take advantage of Ginn's speed, considering the man coverage Denver was running..... especially when they brought safety pressure and stacked the box quite a bit on first down. Where was the PA and motion to freeze the front 7, and then let Ginn burn the CB deep or down the seam?

People seem to forget, nobody expected Ginn to step into the role as our #1 WR as well as he did, all things considered, even the bad drops.

Dude had 10 touchdowns in the regular season. We know what he is, and what he isn't. No sense bitching about it now.

It's been acknowledged in the thread how he exceeded expectations. I'm not sure if anyone is necessarily "bitching" but that's what we do in a forum, discuss the finer nuances of the game.

Ginn had an alley across the entire field to cut across against AZ. Talib had the inside and upfield closed off and Ward was right on his tail. I wouldn't have minded seeing something other than going out of bounds, but he really had nowhere to go.

that was different and was a run play with the entire offense downfield blocking for him.  He had guys to take out defenders making a cut back possible.  On that play it was him against talib and ward.  if he tried cut back talib would have tackled him or ward would have caught him from behind.  There were no blockers in front to catch defenders peeling back.

Not mad, surprised, or even critical of Ginn on that play, but made the comment that Smitty in his prime easily cuts that back inside for 6.  Obviously TGJr isn't 89 in his prime, but whatever.

Yeah, that's something I thought of...never in any circumstance could I picture Steve Smith running out of bounds in that situation.  But we ALL know that he's a totally different beast, and I didn't want to ruin credibility by bringing him up since people still have such a bad taste somehow.
