Who Should Go or not resign

Stewart is a NO BRAINER.... If he could play 16 games.

CJ/Allen- Gone

Tillman- Retired

Harper- Gone

Tolbert- Unless he takes a team friendly deal, let him walk

With Norman this year, Star and KK coming due next, the money needs to be spent wisely.. I'm not going to be shocked one bit if FA isn't an old school day 1 spending spree. I think we are more likely to see the same M.O. this yeas as last.

you guys crazy to say we should let Stewart go..he was huge part of the success of this team..

what you guys are missing that the reason we did so well was because of the Locker room atmosphere..to throw that specific piece away to free up cap space just isn't worth it..

As one who has mused about Stewart staying or going, I agree with  these comments and other similar ones.

1) He was HUGE for us this year and his performance would NOT be the reason to cut him.  Thrilled he made the pro bowl.

2) His role in the locker room is big, and for that reason I would seriously hesitate to let him go.

NO BRAINER to keep him, right?  But.......

3) His injuries do concern me.  I feel we were vulnerable a few games late in the season when he was a bit gimpy.  Heck, even on Sunday, at one point we had Stew & Fozzy both dinged up on the sidelines, and CAP not active...so only Tolbert.  That was a "gulp" moment.    Unless we really change how we use him, keeping Stew might mean only realistically counting on him for 12 games in the season, making roster management difficult.

4) His cap hit is the least of my concerns, but, it does seem outsized, and so at some point it enters the equation.

All this adds up to the great probability that we keep Stew (I'd say 85% - 90% likely).  But there's just enough question re: his injuries and cap space that makes it less than a done deal.

I hope everyone who is wanting to go on a spending spree is OK with us losing Short in a year because that's what will happen if we commit all of our future cap to free agents. Working out extensions with Norman and Short should be the only priorities right now. After that you can maybe sign one or two midlevel guys(like Weddle or possibly Cordarelle Patterson if he is cut, Cam made Ginn good why not Patterson too). Then go bargin shopping again and use the draft to fill other holes.

I think Stewart stays. He was critical this year and I don't think CAP is ready for the full load, though I'm very intrigued by Wegher.

If Allen is willing to take a huge paycut, not a restructure but willing to play for ~$3mil a season he can stay. Otherwise we can't afford him for his production.

Same deal goes for CJ, though he's more valuable.  I'd let him stay for a new deal that's roughly $6-7mil a year for 2-3 years.

Finnegan and McClain can stay on small deals.

Cotchery goes.

Peanut will probably retire but if he  wants to stay on a cheap deal let him stay.

D. Edwards can still play and he's cheap.

Harper's gone.

Norman gets franchised. KK gets a big new contract. Star gets 5th year option.

Tolbert might be gone.... Fozzy should be gone but won't be.  We need a true FB and our young RBs need reps.

Also, regarding JNo:

Absolutely love that he has worked so hard to become one of the top, if not the best, corners in the league, but he will be 29 later in 2016 most likely playing under the tag.

I haven't seen any news about his expectations for a new contract, but we have to be careful with term and money.  What kind of contract would everyone be willing to give to Josh with age/salary cap implications?

I'd be ok with ~$10mil a year for four years. He isn't OLD. He's got more than a contract left worth of dominance. He's not a guy that relies on speed anyway.

Not saying he is old, but he isn't young either.  I think he has three solid years left where he can be considered elite, but I wonder if he wants a longer contract at max value.  Those contracts are the ones that come back and bite you on your backside.

He may not totally rely on his speed, but he made a couple of terrific plays against Denver solely due to his speed.....or maybe it looked like his speed when in reality it was Peyton throwing the ball like Trent Dilfer.

I think Finnegan did a great job and he looked plenty quick to me.  Admirable considering he was signed off of a couch.  I really want to upgrade Ed Dickson.  Get an above average guy who can block and catch.  I think it will pay dividends.

Yea if he's looking at something much more than what I mentioned, next year will probably be his last as a panther.

If you huddlers are like me (which I believe most of your are) the thought of what I would do in the offseason to prepare our Panthers for a great 2016-17 run have been cracking my brain since early Monday morning.  We all know how Gettleman rolls he drafts BPA in the draft with no expectation of any trades or sexy moves but it works.  He also likes his bargain free agents from Target instead of using majority of cap space at Tiffany's.  With being out of cap hell for the first time in 3-4 years, this is what I would do and please feel free to comment:

Cut Charles Johnson (missed 7 games and had 1 sack in regular season) Cap Savings : $11,000,000

Cut Jared Allen (fill in guy who managed 2 sacks) Cap Savings: $8,500,000

Cut Dwan Edwards (decent depth but over 30 backup) Cap Savings: $1,600,000

Cut Nate Chandler (back up Tackle, Remmers will take his roster spot as back up ) Savings : $1,300,000

Cut Roman Harper (Coleman to SS and Boston to FS, draft seconardy)

Cut Jerricho Cotchery (KB back, Funchess, Philly and Ginn)

Cut Fozzy Whitaker (Wegher and CAP valuable back ups)

Restructure J Stewart (unwilling to then cut)

Offseason Move : Resign Josh Norman to about a 3-4 year deal worth $12,000,000 (or tag if cant reach deal)

Throw $10,000,000 at DE Oliver Vernon to start opposite of Ealy.  Sign Gettlemans bargain Target FAs for secondary help, OL help, DL help for camp.

Draft: Top targets for 1st round 30th pick : DE Kevin Dodd, CB Eli Apple, LT Jack Conklin, WR Josh Doctson, FS D. Thompson, RB Derrick Henry, LT Jason Spriggs, DE Noah Spence (this is all speculation as Gettleman goes BPA and lets the draft comes to him)
