Mike Shula's EGO

The Question

I'll give Shula credit. He has built an offense tailored around Cam and to his talents. However, he has to allow Cam to to take some control. Give Cam the plays and let Cam decide what's gonna work and not. I'd love to see Cam call his plays like Peyton does. Cam has made Shula look like an offensive guru this year.

Yeah that would be great.

the shula calls long developing plays is another myth that needs to die

we did run mutiple wr screens....but let's ignore that, you can blame shula all day but if players execute half the plays they fuged up we aren't having this discussion. jericho can't even beat von miller in coverage let alone catch a ball that's perfectly place in the numbers, ginn let's a ball go right through his hands, tolbert decides to try and run over a defender instead of tucking the ball away. Dickson and fozzy said fuged chip blocking and remmers isn't smart enough to at least hold to avoid miller hitting cam. the runs up the middle were called to give us 2nd and manageable but since the o line kept getting obliterated it turn into 2nd and long then false starts started to come making it even harder to move the ball.

but let's keep pumping out the shula sucks propaganda

Shula wouldn't get as much hate had he owned up to his poo play calling instead of throwing Cam and the offense under the bus.  I've hated Shula as consistently as his gameplan of "middle run, middle run, deep pass, punt" was for all of 2014. I have been pleasantly surprised with his play calling this year, but every week I waited for him to revert back, I just hate he decided to poo the bed on the biggest stage instead of the regular season.

You guys who have all this love for Shula go rewatch vs Seattle and vs Arizona, then rewatch the Superbowl and tell me it wasn't a complete 180 in play calling.

It really does make it look like Cam's mental game at the LOS has jumped to that next level, seeing as he had plenty of time to make adjustments at the line vs having to roll with Shula's dumb ass original call that took 25-30 seconds to send in in the first place.

I agree. I want Shula to say I messed up. Hell, Cam owned their mistakes but the play calling had a lot to do with it. Even with the Seattle game, Cam wasn't getting plays in time. It was like Mike Shula froze on this big stage. And in turn, it froze his entire offense. But somehow, it's Cam's fault. Cam has spoken so highly of Shula too.

Cam seemed frustrated the entire game. The entire game. The only slight bit of happiness and enjoyment shown was after Stew scored. Now, do you think he was just that focused? Why would you think that, since he didn't have that body language during either of the other playoff games.

I firmly believe Cam was under orders to not change up plays much. When he checked off, plays were there. Sometimes he got sacked because of inept OL play, but when you saw us check off, the play he called was there. Why else would he look frustrated and bummed? Why else would he look like he just wasn't having fun for the entire game? In tight games all year, he looked focused and happy. Whole game yesterday? Just down.

Shula is no good for Cam. Sure, he has implemented a killer system. But Shula, for all the good he has done with this offense, he is the thing holding it back at times. Get an OC that will let Cam run the show. An OC that can design some good plays, some creative stuff to take advantage of our skill guys individual skills, and who doesn't mind taking a step back and letting Cam run it.

Non-Panther fans keep asking me what happened. They have seen some games and all said a version of the same thing: "from all I've seen this season...that didn't look like the same Panthers team. Something just felt off all game. Like, bad off". I asked most what they meant, and they said "the offense. Just seemed like it was night and day different from what you ran the past two games and most of the season".

The Shula hate is old.  Denver has a great defense and we played poorly collectively.

Not every play call is perfect, but we did enough to win that game, but fugged it up with pre snap penalties and turnovers.

You guys are no better than the Cam Newton haters who cant wait to get your claws out whenever things dont go well.

You're taking me the wrong way, I've loved Shula this season and kept quiet when we struggled. But it is impossible to deny that a large part of our offensive success this season has been due to Cam being able to check more at the line and choose, and if you know football it was clear that wasn't happening often at all Sunday. Do I think it's the only reason we lost? Even the largest reason? No. Do I think we should fire him? Of course not. I however cannot and will not say it wasn't a contributor and that I'm very disappointed in what he chose to do. I am not a Shula "hater".
