Free agency not the draft will be the key this off season

its time to start cashing over money in free agency and stop dollar store shopping.

Lets look at the last 4 SB winners, Broncos built almost entirely through FA, Patriots brought in Revis, Browner and Amendola, Seahawks brought in Harvin, Bennett and Avril, Ravens had Boldin.

We can't rely on and expect rookies to come in and contribute right away on a Superbowl caliber team.

Broncos and Pats also drafted well. Rookies don't really get significant playing time. You see Cotchery got more snaps than Funchess and you got players like Jared Allen starting over Ealy (2nd year player).

they were the first team to stop Olsen.  On the radio last week we had so many ways to beat you.  There was no way they could cover them all.  Give credit to the coaching staff.  We also need to do something because they just laid out the blueprint to be at Carolina.

Yeah, but the other 30 teams don't have Miller and Ware to sick on Cam.  Also, at the moment Denver's DL and secondary are right up there with the best of them.

I think there are several pieces on the roster already:

Kelvin WR

Williams OT

OLine - Oher, Norwell, Kalil,

Turner, and Williams    This looks promising

WRs. You have 2 basketball

bodies and 2 speedsters. I'll take that.

Any FAs that are brought in should be guys who can help us get quicker and younger on defense IMO.

we have to pay KK, Star, and at the least the franchise tag for Josh- no way we are signing Alshon unless he forgets who he is and signs at a ridiculous cheap contract - not happening

We are not paying KK and star this year. They still have cheap deals.

I'd spend the money on a free agent DE. I'd take Hardy because he's a proven commodity in the system. Bygones be bygones, we're talking about another Super Bowl run mind you.

Draft the best OL prospects you can get at 30 and whatever, maybe double dip and sign a better than average vet or two. Cam had to bite his lip yesterday he was hot! The protection was awful. Keep in mind that everyone in the NFL has just seen what you did with what you got and FA's will want to play here.

Only positions we need in free agency is a tackle, cornerback, DEFENSIVE END and maybe a safety.  We have KB coming back and Funchess as ! Number 2 receiver. Gonna is a respectable 3rd wr and brown will push him for playing time. If we do get a receiver it will be through the draft in the middle rounds.

Yeah, I don't understand it as well.  We're set at receiver with KB, Funchess, Ginn & Brown.  Bersin is 100% gone, not sure about Cotchery, though.

Are you sure Funchess is number 2 material? Kelvin will be back at 100% and not get injured again? And sorry but Ginn and Brown are not real deep threats. Browns isn't that fast and is constantly injured, Ginn has the worst hands in the NFL and is only getting older.

Give me Mike Walllace or Travis Benjamin two proven deep threats

Well at the end of the day the Broncos got their Sb we didn't, you act as if getting back to the SB is sure thing. Marino went his second year, NEVER went back. We are win win now mode, the NFL is a win now league and like I said I don't want to go out there and spend a ton of money on free agent I just don't want the Cotchery, Ginn and Avant of the worlds on a season to season basis to be our key acquisitions.

If you want I can use Seattle as an example since they seem to resemble us more than anyone else, they went out and got Avril, Bennett, Harvin, Lynch and now Graham. Not all of them worked out but at least they tried.

But now is seems like the key to winning the Super Bowl is having the best defense. Denver has a top #1 defense that is prime to stop high power offenses like Carolina, New England, and Pittsburgh. Those pass rushers who can get to the QB like Von Miller and Demarcus Ware are dominant forces also their interior defensive front like Derek Wolfe and Malik Jackson are monsters too. We have been damn near complete as a team until this moment. Teams are going to take notice and now find pass rushers who can shut your Cam Newtons, Tom Brady, and Ben Roethlisberger down.

First things first..  Our own guys. Sign them. Second, the lines, D and O.  Third,  the secondary. Add depth.  Fourth, draft the future starters. Fifth,  add vets.

As much as I love the idea of getting Alshon, we will have Funchess and Benjamin next season. Olsen, Ginn, Brown, Cotchery. It's going to be fine. We may neeanother back to take the load off Stewart.  He's proven he can't handle a season alone.

Next season will be amazing. I don't think we'll be 15-1 again but it will be a 10+ win season for sure.

While I believe we will take a bite into the Free Agent market it is going to be a very select group. Not only do they have to truly be and upgrade but they also have to fit this team.

We go through this every offseason and everyone gets pissed off because we didn't sign so in so.

We were 17-2 with a pretty good team.  Can we upgrade? Certainly.

We are not turning into M. Hurney because we lost the Super Bowl.

That said

I think we will look to upgrade

RT, S, CB, RB

Just like last season.  We addressed just about every position before the draft giving us opportunities to take BPA.

In regard to our OWN players who are entering Free Agency, Bill Voth has put together a nice list along with his thoughts on whether they'll be back as Panthers for 2016.

http://blackandbluereview.com/a-quick-peek-at-the-panthers-upcoming-unrestricted-free-agents/

Quote

WR Jerricho Cotchery — The final three years on his five-year contract void after this season. Will the Panthers bring him back? Too close to call right now.

CB Cortland Finnegan — After coming out of semiretirement, he could hang them up permanently this offseason.

G Tyronne Green — Hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since 2012 and is coming off a torn Achilles he suffered in June.

Roman Harper — Has some tread left on his tires. Because of his role as a mentor in the defensive backfield, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Panthers kept Harper around another year.

LS J.J. Jansen — If it ain’t broke …

DT Kyle Love — The Panthers were the only team to give him a shot near the end of 2014, so they could keep him around another year.

CB Josh Norman — His age — he’ll turn 29 in December — is a long-term deal killer. Hard to see this not ending with a franchise tag that’ll cost the Panthers about $14 million.

Brad Nortman  — This may not be the no-brainer it appeared in the past, but odds are he’ll get a deal.

Chris Scott — Versatile, but not necessary.

OL Amini Silatolu — It may be time to cut ties with the oft-injured former 2nd-round pick.

CB Charles Tillman — Hard to see the Panthers or anyone else giving him a 14th season, especially since his ACL won’t be ready until later in 2016.

FB Mike Tolbert — He won’t match his last contract, a four-year, $10 million deal, but it’s a good bet the Panthers will bring him back.

Fernando Velasco — See: Chris Scott … ditto

QB Joe Webb — He likes the Panthers, they love his versatility, he’ll likely return.
