OL, RB, S, CB, DE

I'm assuming that Roman Harper, Jared Allen, Charles Johnson, and possibly Jonathan Stewart will all be gone, thus making some holes. Josh Norman is gone eventually too but even if he isn't the team still needs another CB.

Stew is definitely gonna stay.

OT - Went from an all pro OT to failed experiments in Bell and Chandler. That is on Gettleman. Set the Panthers back with that decision and now trying to get  by with Remmers and Oher. 15 draft picks in 3 drafts. Waste of possible starting OTs that could perform as well or better than Remmers.

DE - Kony Ealy is a poor man's Charles Johnson. Not anything opposing offenses will worry about. He is not "great". He is inconsistent but serviceable just like Charles Johnson at the end of his career. Kony is no where near a young CJ. People act like he is going to be an all pro DE when he is miles away from it.

S - Coleman has his moments, but his failures offset those moments. The team believes Tre Boston is not good enough to start and is just a special teams player. When Harper and Coleman are ahead of you, that means you might be a bust. Nothing has been done to make an impact at this position for years. The LBs cover up these failings

WR - KB and Funchess are far from fearsome right now. KB is a big player coming off an ACL. They take at least a year to return to their previous level if they manage to do that. KB relies on his jump ball abilities and he comes down awkwardly. Everyone hope he can correct and heal. Funchess does not threaten any defense. Once again it is hope. The Panthers had a feared weapon at WR that is still feared and dominating in the league. Still a ways away from replacing what the Panthers lost.

Stop calling these weaknesses 'great'. These are all positions fans HOPE turn out well. The Panthers need players who are proven and command respect from other teams. The only players Gettleman has brought in over 3 seasons that command respect are at DT. I expect at least 2 players per season added to the team that command respect from opposing teams based on the history of what the Panthers have been able to do over the years.

I assume you are kidding, if not, this is the stupidest post I read today.

Kony Ealy is gonna have a better career than CJ for sure, he's in his second year and he contributed in limited PT.

Coleman, he's got like 7 INT and he deserves some credit.

As your comments on KB and Funch, I guess you didn't watch any game since 2014.

Oher is a stop gap, allen is a stop gap, all the other cb's not named norman or bene are stop gaps, Ginn has played well but he is a stop gap. If the same positions continue to be positions of need then the problem is not being addressed.

Obviously, I totally disagree.  Sure, I agree Oher and Ginn could probably be upgraded.  Being decent but not elite players is not the same as being a "stop gap."  Most every position except for 1 or 2 (QB & LB) we could have upgrades / fill needs.  Most teams are lucky to have 2 elite players.  We have something like 6.(Cam, Greg, Luke, TD, Josh, KK)

Being "at need" in a position can sometimes be a question of needing depth, or needing to recruit a young guy to train up to eventually take over for an aging vet.  It does not always mean you suck at that position.

For instance, I contend that one of our positions "of need" right now is TE.  Greg is AWESOME.  But I think we need to prioritize finding a young guy we can train up, whom Greg can mentoor who could eventually start in Greg's place.  Now that "need" for another TE is not critical or urgent, but I'm not comfortable with our TE depth.  God forbid Greg get injured and be out for a stretch, we;d be hurting....

Sure we'd all like All Pros at every position, but how are you going to pay for them?  I'd rather keep cheap, perfectly servicable guys like Ginn, Oher & Coleman to allow us to pay for KK and Josh....

BIG NEEDS.....T - S - DE - CB

Possible needs......RB , WR

Not Directly Needs but might be nice........TE , FB, K, P

Right Tackle - I think this is a no brainer for most people but wouldn't mind keeping Remmer's as a back up.   Not sure where Daryl Williams fit's into the equation.   Oher did much better than I think anyone dreamed he would this season and I think he will continue to do well for the next few years.

Safety - Roman Harper has to be one of the slowest DB's in the NFL, if you get an angle on him....it's over...not sold on Boston at the Starter role.

Defensive End - I am pretty much convinced that Charles "Big Money" Johnson is gone this coming season.  I feel like Ealy showed enough this past season ( especially the SB ) to prove he can be the starter.  Not sure if Jarred Allen will be resigned to a much cheaper deal but I would love to have another big time rusher to maybe rotate out with him.  Alexander is as good as gone....maybe Addison or Delaire?

Corner Back - Peanut is probably going to retire or not make the squad.  He was a liability at times in coverage because he no longer has the speed that he used too (after this injury and his age?  I donno....for a reallllllly cheap deal I wouldn't mind keeping him as a backup if possible just for his mentor ship alone ).  Is McClain enough going forward, highly unlikely.  I know how much we all love the underdog story but let's be realistic here.  Will need another starter across from Norman.  Not sure if they plan on putting Bene at that position but it still leaves a hole that McClain probably can't fill.

-------------------Maybe-------------------

Running Back - I love me some JStew but with his huge contract, potential to save a lot of money by cutting him ( 6 Million I think but Dead money get's tied up into that contract ), is he worth it?  I do realize that he fits our system about perfectly and he is one of the best blitz pickup / protection backs in the NFL but he is oft injured.  Can he make it an entire year? or will he just be eating up a ton of money and riding the bike for half the season again?  Can Cap effectively take over the starting role with Tolbert ( Wegher?)  I would not mind riding with Stewart next season personally but it's always a risk with him for health reason's.

Wide Receiver - With the return of our beloved Kelvin Benjamin, is this really a need after the year Cam had with our guys?  I say yes and no ( maybe ).  Cotchery is pretty much gone but KB will be able to easily fill the hole that was left by him.  Funchess and KB should be a nice 1, 2 punch with Ginn Blowing the top of a defense off.  I think Brown did well enough in the season to maybe earn the 4th - 5th WR Spot.  Not sure what they plan on doing with Norwood, Bersin and Byrd and I have no idea what Stephen Hill will be like after he comes back from his injury.  I think at this point WR is just a big question mark but luckily, as it looks at this moment we have our starter's in place.

------------------------Would be nice------------------------

Tight End - I think Olsen has a good 2-4 year left in the tank so this is not a direct need.  Ed did ok in his very limited role but wouldn't it be nice to have another TE would was a big receiving threat, along with a good blocker?  It would also be nice to find a Gem that would eventually replace Olsen a couple years down the road.

Full Back - Look, I love Tolbert and he is probably one of the most likable character's on the team by fans and other teammates but I really think age is catching up with him.  I just for some reason almost always cringe when I see him out in the back field ( he has some really big time runs this year but they were few and far between ) If we keep him for another year or two I would not be upset...again, I do not think it's a big time need to have him replaced just yet.

Kicker - Gano had a Special Teams Player of the Month this season.  He seems like he can be an amazing kicker but not very clutch at times.  He missed some FG's or kicked them low allowing for blocks this season.  Also, it seems like when we really needed him to kick balls out of the end zone he would not come through with that either.  I am fine moving onto next year with Gano as our Kicker but wouldn't mind looking at other's in training camp.

Punter - Nortman had a few really terrible kicks this season but does it warrant enough to cut and replace him?  Not so sure.
