My Last Thread - On Cam and Conformity

Best thing Cam going for himself is not conforming to what people think on how to act or react. All people do, especially in America, is build you up to tear you down. Shame on Cam if he do cause he's just falling into a trap. I honestly miss Cam being hated and the Panthers being dismissed. The winning and being favorites, MVP got this team super confident heading into SB and got their asses beat badly. Going into next season, the Panthers wont be the favorite because of the "SB hangover" and this team will be doubted again. They flip flop which is why you're supposed to not pay the hype no mind. A little off topic

There's no set way on how to act when you win. There's no set way on how to act when you lose. If I lost the SB, I wouldn't even talk to the media. For what? Technically the season is over.  Keep in mind everybody isn't the same. Its all opinions, please keep that in mind as well. The panthers organization is to win games, that includes Cam Newton. That's all that matters and should the main and only focus. Dont get sucked into anything else but that.

Well at least all the bandwagon and "swag" fans are leaving. Its gonna be funny how fast the media does a 360 on Cam and the panthers, from fun confident team to sore losers who got their comeuppance

I agree. Cam said himself that he didnt "mature" or change. He said the media changed because he was winning. We heard about that attitude and pouting all season and we only lost 2 games. There was no need for him to be upset or any of us as we want to see nothing but winning. The narrative that he should be more mature about losing is so ridiculous its not even funny. The reason why People care so much about his losing demeanor is because thats all they want to see from him in the first place. Cam was suppose to become a bust and when that didnt happen they said we would never win with him as a franchise QB, both those things have pretty mucg been shot down. They say he will never when with his attitude but yet they are never rooting for him to begin with......thats why i say as fans we should not care how Cam acts after losses, because there is never a case where anyone is supportive as long as Cam is our QB. Stand behind him always, he has been here 5 years....we know what is important to him and this team.

Some of those reporters were asking inane questions that were meant to poke at Cam.

Cam wanted to ream the officials I am sure for the Broncos being allowed to hit him in the head while he was in the pocket, leading with a helmet to helmet hit after he had gone down to the ground from another player, being driven into the ground out of bounds, and the late him after he threw the ball away.

Cam wanted to toss his coaches under the bus for leaving him exposed in the game and not utilizing the read option, no huddle, and shotgun audibles he does so well at in game as long as he is allowed to run a fast paced offense.

We all know what happens when you try to slow the offense down and turn the entire offense into game managers.

It's funny how, despite the "50" hoopala & marching past MVP's on the field, the history of the Super Bowl is more like recent events. I remember when no one wanted to talk to the losing team. When the losing team's locker room was off limits to the press, out of respect for the players. When QB's & players refused to talk to the press after the game. When only written statements were issued. When statements were read at the podium with no questions taken. When grown men cried at the podium. When QB's would throw their teammates under the bus (Hey Jimbo, I'll never forget, you asswipe. Karma is a bitch.) When, out of respect for all the men who play the game of football, the meet-the-press areas were separate for winners & losers. And now, because social media.

I have no problem with Cam's demeanor at the postgame podium or that he walked away. Would it have been any better if he had said, "I can't talk about this now" like others before him have? No. People grieve differently & that is what losing the Super Bowl is, grieving.

I do have a large problem with how the NFL is handling all the postgame crap (in the losing team's locker room? Really??) & especially how our local media has blown it up, starting with the Charlotte Observer.

The only thing I will say that I dont agree with Cam on, and I defended him before his comments today,... was that he chose not to dive for the ball.

There would have been 4 minutes left, punt and we have been stopping them the whole game. We would have gotten back with a minute or more with one last chance at history.

If you are a Superhero-- then be a Super hero-- getting hurt be damned.  

Anyway, I love Cam to death,.. Im sure his smile will come back and we will be back.

Bottom line.

Cam is an emotional player that wears his emotions on his sleeve.  That is actually unique for the QB position.  It has its positives and negatives.  Positives are his teammates can feed of it, an entire stadium and it can help a team overachieve.  When you have that personality when things are bad....emotions will still still be shown (Cam post game).

Media today isn't "news and reporting"....it is essentially story creating and media wanting to be part of the story.

Michael Jordan, Deion Sanders, Terry Bradhaw etc didn't play in this environment.   Players today play the media game.  Cam doesn't care to.  Marshawn Lynch another recent example.  Lynch actually has a great personality.  But unless you want to be fake and bogus....there isn't much point in given today's media what they claim they want.  So Lynch adopted his middle finger approach to it.  Sportsmanship really isn't about being fake to bogus TMZ-esque modern media.   That is the story from the games post game presser.  

Media is just garbage.  Local media was just as bad.  They often made non-stories headlines IMO b/c the nonsense sells.  How they covered a 15-1 season isn't how it was covered  15 years ago. 

if Michael Jordan entered the league today....what he became would never occur.  He would have been destroyed his entire career by the media.  Same for lots of NFL greats.

He is a superb athlete 

he is also the face of the franchise and paid handsomely to be such   That comes with obligation no different than any of us at our jobs   Sometimes cliches are called for out of respect   Respect for the game   Respect for others and yourself and for your organization 

I don't know how I feel other than fatigued from explaining and being baited into defending the face of the franchise 

its sad actually to hear the out and our hatred from other players more so than the media  

one of the sports reporters actually made the point about backlash from his own fans being possible from the fatigue of defending him  I think that is possible 

in the new world order of media access and entitlement, Newton can't have both ways, love the camera for his dabs and hate the camera when there is nothing to dab about

Dude Im one of the original Cam lovers-- mine was the 24-0 comeback at the Alabama game-- I told everyone I wanted the guy more than Andrew Luck,....

He definitely has my benefit of the doubt,.. I just think like Dan Marino-- this could be his only Superbowl ever,.. there are no guarantees.  Take the road to glory,.. leave it all out on the field and then there are no discussions like this!

Anyway, like Rivera said,... Ive moved on to the 2016 season! Hoorah,..
