Mike Shula: "Cam wasn't good enough". Probably because you called a horrible game, Shula.

For a team that was 15 and 1 and in the Super Bowl, not one coach was hired by another team, college or pro

think about that

Just because someone isn't head coach material does not mean they are not good at their coordinator position. This is silly logic

Dick LeBeau...

Jim Johnson...

Norv Turner...

Ernie Zampese...

... and dozens of others are all fantastic coordinators and brilliant football people even though they either failed as head coaches or never got an opportunity.

We were beat by a great defense, uncharacteristic mistakes on our part (including the coaches), some bad calls by the refs, and a pro-Denver crowd. There is no need to throw anyone under the bus. We had the #1 offense in the NFL due to our players and coaches. Let's do it again next season with even better players! There is no reason we can't keep it rolling. It would be stupid to break up the chemistry now. Upgrade at OT and WR (which we naturally do by getting Benji back) and our O will have no weaknesses. Improve the D as well and we should have as good a shot as anyone to win it all next year if we avoid major injuries.

The offense as a whole wasn't good enough and Shula said that. He didn't just single out Cam. I think there are some things could have done offensively to counter the pass rush. The multiple drops, fumbles, false starts and overthrown balls. Those things are on the players. Shula did make some questionable decisions too. As for not giving Remmers any help take a look at the strip fumble for a TD. Tolbert is supposed to be helping chip Miller and he completely whiffs. I don't know how many more times that tight ends and running backs screwed up there assignments. I still can't bring myself to watch much of the game. The offense and special teams let the team down. Credit to Denver there D showed up for the playoffs and created big plays. It stinks. Easy to blame Shula but a large part was players not executing.

Slants and screens.

We ran two (successful) slants.  Zero screens.

I didn't name Shula, others did but anyone who thinks Shula is the same catagory as Turner and Zampese, wow, just wow.

If Shula didn't have Newton no one would know his name except  as it relates to his Father.

i don't buy Panthers were beat by a great defense either.  That is always the discussion point. The Panthers looked  flat and unprepared.   End of story.

i mean who would possibly have thought that Denver DEs would end rush Remmers and Oher...brilliant Wade. Brilliant

We actually had success running off tackle. The fumble by Tolbert was a 10+ yard run off tackle. I think we ran it maybe 3 times the entire game. The triple option was very successful one of the two times it was called. They're a really good defense, but Shula didn't force them to make adjustments. If a play or formation was working, he would call something else before the defense stopped it. Look at the TD drive. Almost all multiple TE looks or an up back to help block. That should have been the formation philosophy for the entire game since it, you know, actually worked. Run it until they stop it. Force them to play outside of their comfort zone. Don't allow a 4 man rush to disrupt your offense because of a one on one match up that you would never win.
