This thread got me thinking about all the guys who were on our roster at any point of this season... It really DOES take a team effort, and careful roster building and management to get this far.

After a horrible pre-season with injuries to Hill, Benji, and Frank Alexander, we've actually been pretty fortunate with injuries this season.  Yes, we lost two starters to the IR (Bene & Tillman), and had some key players out for multiple weeks at various times (CJ, Luke, Stew, Norwell, Shaq, Star, Cotchery), but it could have been so much worse....

Of our initial 53 man roster at the start of the season, 45 of those players remain.  Of the remaining 8 no longer on the 53:

  • 4 are on the IR:  Chandler, Silatolu, Bene, Tillman
  • 3 were cut:  Colin Cole, Brandon Williams, Richie Brockel
  • 1 is on the PS:  Wes Horton

Of the initial 53 man roster, 20 players played in all 16 games (including Special Teamers):

Boston, Davis, Dickson, Ealy, Funchess, Gano, Harper, Jacobs, Janson, Newton, Norman, Nortman, Oher, Olsen, Remmers, Short, Tolbert, Turner, Webb, T. Williams

Here are the 8 players we added to the 53 man roster to replace those on IR or released during the season (in order of the number of games they played, from most, to least):  3 were from our PS; 1 was a trade; 4 were signings of free agents.

Then, there were two guys who had the distinction of being on the 53 man roster for 1 week each:

  • Emergency Long Snapper Danny Aikmen, signed when there was worry that JJ Jansen would be unable to play against Dallas, and
  • Practice Squad Olineman David Foucault, who was active on the 53 for 1 week (Wk4 against Tampa) when we were dangerously thin on Oline depth.  (I believe that is when we released Horton before resigning him).

So, all told, if my math is correct, we have had a total of 63 players on the 53 man roster at some point this season.

And of course there are 5 players who have been on IR all season:

  • Frank Alexander
  • Kelvin Benjamin
  • Tyronne Green
  • Stephen Hill
  • Arthur Miley

And those currently on our Practice Squad who never got on the 53:

(plus Foucault and Horton, who are currently on the PS, but who were on the 53 at some point in the season (Horton began on the 53 and played 8 games, Foucault was on the PS for all but 1 game of the season)

Others who were on the Practice Squad at some point in the season (I may have missed some):

  • linebacker Adarius Glanton  (signed by Tampa on 11/30)
  • CB Carrington Byndom (only for a few days at start of season)
  • Center Shane McDermott (for a few weeks in Sept)
  • Center Eric Kush (Sept - Oct)
  • Tackle Burton Pierce (Sept - Nov)

And there was 1 player who was on the IR at the beginning of the season who was released during the season:

OT Davonte Wallace

So there you have it:

  • 63 players on the 53 man roster at some point
  • 6 guys on the IR who never played during the season (1 of whom has been released)
  • at least 13 players formerly or currently on the Practice Squad who never got on the 53 at any point.

that's 82 Carolina Panthers for the 2015 season.... a lot of rings to buy!!

of course that does not counting those who participated in OTAs, minicamp or training camp but didn't make the team.

(Perhaps we should also give a special award to punter Matt Wile who was signed and released 3, maybe 4, times during the course of 2015, but never made the team...  most times ALMOST a Panther!)
