Jake's Confidence - NFLN Video

It's obvious Jake has confidence issues... with how he's played he should be rattled. But as a panthers fan it kills me to hear my fellow fans boo our quarterback. He knows that he's playing like crap and espn is giving him enough criticism that they don't need our help. I know that theres not much fans can do to actually affect how our team plays, but I think this is one of the few times when we might matter. He needs a confidence boost and we certainly aren't helping. I think we should show him some loyalty. We forget he went to the Pro Bowl in 2004 WITHOUT Steve Smith and he's taken us to the playoffs 3 out of the 5 seasons he's been our starting quarterback! (I'm not including 2007 when he played 3 games). Even if he has played like piss in the last two games, show some gratitude for making Carolina a far more successful team than the vast majority of the nfl during his time here. Even if you don't want to cheer when he runs on the field (I understand) just keep your mouth shut. I don't want to sound like I have love affair with him but I think the jake-haters, even now, are much more disconnected with reality. I think the NFL Network actually did a fair and objective analysis of the Jake situation that is worth a look.

HOORAY!

another thread saying Jake is good NOW because he played good back THEN

its like someone drinking expired milk, and saying, "well... if the milk was good 2 months ago, its being sour doesn't matter now. Just remember how good the milk use to taste, and keep drinking it."

I will agree with xclown to a point. I have been a Jake supporter for a long time. But there comes a time when fans need to let a player and, more importantly, a coach know when they aren't happy. After all, we are paying them, sometimes a lot of money, and we have the right to react how we want to. I find it extremely hard to defend Jake now. I used to have the "Good Jake/Bad Jake" argument, but I can't anymore. He's just been awful.

    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
    • They will still be a playoff team but they aren't contenders anymore IMO. They won't be able to spend like they have when they went to a SB and proved he couldn't carry a win at that level with a really good team around him. Now he is going to have to do it with less to spend around him. They just locked in to being a playoff bound team that's going to be a known speed bump for whoever will represent the NFC in the SB.
    • Hmm. I think he'll live up to it. Last year, about half of his team was on IR it seems, at one time or another. Year before, Super Bowl appearance. Year before that, playoff run after being third on the depth chart and being pressed into service. Is he one of the greatest in the game right now? Nope. No chance of that. Is he in the top 10 going into next season? Pretty good chance of that.  Would 20 or more teams in this league love to have the guy as their starting QB. Most likely so. He's a good QB who can implement his coach's game plan to a T and has both the confidence of and confidence in his teammates. That'll take you a long way in this league if you've got the right cast around you, and he does.
