What position did you play?

Ok, not Panther related but we are close to the SB and we're all itch'n.

What position did you play in football as a Senior in HS?

Would love to hear what position you played or any cool stories about it.

For me: As a senior, the start of the summer two a days was an exciting time. We were all happy to be seniors and expected to fare well for our last season. The majority of the team had played together or against one another in midget leagues and throughout until we all merged in HS.

After a couple of weeks of long practices it was time for senior pictures. We were going to get out of the afternoon practice and take some cool guy pics with the cheerleaders. Good day right?

We get the bright idea to go down to our rival school and talk some $hit. We do some drive by screaming, mooning and the ole standard flipping off. Well... Turns out the coach can use a phone. Turns out the ole land line works pretty good.

Our Coach is all sorts of pissed and sentenced us to two weeks hard labor. Basically, we run the whole time during practice while the second string gets all the reps.

After the third day of running the guys have a pow wow and decide we need to make a stand. 17 out of 19 seniors turn in their gear and walk off the field in protest. I was one of the 2 that stayed. It's not that I really wanted to stay but.. My dad was a 2 tour Vietnam Vet and a SF officer. They knew I couldn't quit ... They understood, they prefer I stay alive.

Long story, not so short... We went from potential state contenders to 0-10. I went from halfback and corner to RG (I pulled like hell) and OLB.

What position did you play?

In hs, I was a jack of all trades.

Freshman year, I was an inside backer in a 4-4 scheme. Strongside inside. Also the backup fullback. Didn't start at inside backer until the sophomore starting over me skipped practice all week. Got the start, impressed, started the rest of the year. Got some shots at fb in blowouts. Ran Paul Johnson's triple option. I scored one td.

Sophomore year, I got bigger and faster. I played well and more importantly, I was smart. Knew our system because I wanted to be the best. So, i got a varsity spot. Unfortunately, I was still 5'8" and 175 lbs. Didn't fare well a lot of times. Ultimately, I missed half the season. Why? Because before practice, we're all playing two hand touch. Harmless, right? No. I ran into a guy with my face. I hit his face. I broke my face. Right orbital fracture. Surgery. Sucked.

Junior year, I'm bigger still. 5'10", 190 lbs. I got moved from backup fullback to starting te, as well as starting inside backer. Set a record for tackles in a game at 18 in my school's first ever 3rd found playoff game. Was cool. Missed one game middle of the season with a concussion.

Senior year. The year. Ended the season at 6' and 215 lbs. Got moved offensively again. I'm now starting at left guard. Almost got bumped to defensive end as well as safety (ran a 4.6 40 time) because coaches wanted competition at those spots. Eventually kept my linebacker spot. Best record in school history, eastern finals championship appearance, school season rushing record (something like 4200 yards between our qb and like, 5 different running backs), and I briefly held the school career tackles mark at like, 320, but the other inside backer broke that the next season.

Too many ridiculous stories to name. Most ridiculous would be either having Louisburg high school heckle us as we walked to the field in the 3rd round senior year, or being put on record on a Monday in a McDonald's before our eventual 4th round loss when I was told by a local reporter that I trusted that I was off record. Paper got printed, I was called in the office, parents notified, threats of lawsuits from my coach and principal to the reporter, insanity.

Funny... I was starting TE, backup center and starting cornerback. Not sure I ever caught a single pass since we threw the ball about twice a game (yes that's an exaggeration, I caught some but not many). But I was a meannnn blocker. I had an interception once, that was probably my biggest highlight reel play of my career. I was known to fight a lot. Even busted up my hands more than a few times swinging at a facemask, man that was dumb. I was extremely small for a TE/C, but that's where coach put me--I was normal size for a corner. We went 11-0. Hated when playing center having the QBs hand up my ass. Not sure I remember much else...

I played running back and safety freshman year. I was 115 lbs. I didn't play much lol.

I bulked up to about 165 by Jr year and started at corner. Our schools football team has had records of like 0-10, 1-9, 2-8 for like the last 15 years lol. Our team hated each other. I quit Sr year and never looked back.
