My 5 predictions for SuperBowl 50

Frank Hollywood

Recommended Posts

On 1: I get the inclination Manning will try to throw away from Norman's direction. If he tries deep, I expect it out of a double move by the receiver to try and bait him short.

On 2: This is the more likely scenario and for some strange reason, I see it coming out of a tipped pass.

On 3: You're not getting me to doubt TD's coming to play his heart out. Hoping that arm holds up for four quarters.

On 4: Hopefully, we have a contingency plan if Remmers struggles.

On 5: I just can't see it. Throughout the entire season, he only broke the 100 yard marker against the Giants.

On the score: That's about where I see it.

Oh yeah, left out the 1 Cam fumble...   Vonn Miller returns it for a 23 yd TD.

OK that is 7 points.  Where the hell are the other 20 points coming from?  You squeaked by against New England on two short fields for you scores.   You think Peyton Manning is going to drop 20 on this Defense.  Not likely.

What makes you so sure your Elite defense is going to do something no other team has done for 30+ games?

What you will see is an elite defense on the field, sad thing for you is they will be wearing black.   Our defense is going to frustrate Peyton Manning into big mistakes.  Peyton Manning is a Mediocre QB in pressure games.

Why don't you troll your Bronco forum with your dreams.

My prediction Denver will fall to 2-6 in Super Bowl Appearances.  Great News for Denver though.  They will have a stronghold on the MOST LOSES IN THE SUPER BOWL with 6.

My 5 are easy and very, very doable.

1. Peyton will get greedy and Peyton doesn't mind throwing at great DBs. He'll throw at J-No...J-No will make him pay with an interception.

2. Peyton will stop throwing at J-No after J-No snags a second INT.

3. Cam will break a Superb Owl record. Passing, running, combined yards or TDs. Something.

4. Shaq has his big coming out party on the grandest stage. Pick 6 and a lot of big stops.

5. Funchess strikes fear in the hearts of every defense with a big game against a secondary touted as one of, if not THE best. Not just for his skill, but the thought that next year, we'll have Funchess, Benjamin, Ginn, and Brown back. Funch has a 100+ yard game with at least 1 TD.

I'm really having trouble coming up with a score prediction and/or predictions of key plays.  I'm torn between a fairly close defense-dominated game and a Panthers' blowout win....  I think I'm still in shock re: our 31-0 first half against Seattle and the 49-15 demolition of AZ.  I'm not sure I know what reality looks like for the Panthers anymore, since they have so FAR exceeded my expectations this season!

For the record, my expectations weren't all that low:  I was one of those expecting a pretty good 12 - 4 / 11- 5 type season and an NFC South win... even thought we'd get to the championship game... but to beat Seattle and AZ the way we did just really amazed me.  Our offense kicked it up to another zone, and our defense really came into its most awe-inspiring dominance against AZ...

It doesn't help me in predicting the game that I've hardly watched Denver play all season.  I'm relying more on what people say about them than I am my own observation.

Hey, it's the SUPER BOWL.  Gotta go with the prediction of a pretty strong win - perhaps not quite a blowout - by the Panthers.

Panthers 38 - Denver 24

TDs:   Cam, Olsen, Tolbert, Stew, Ginn

4 or 5 turnovers by Denver:  (Luke/TD, Josh, Tre, Kurt)

5 sacks of Manning:  Allen, KK (2), Ealy, CJ

2 sacks of Cam, 1 interception.

Update:  On re-reading the above, I realize my score prediction doesn't really match my game highlights prediction.  If we really do force 4 - 5 turnovers, there's no way Denver will score 24.  So, in that case the score would be more like 38 - 17...

But I'm gonna go out on a limb dreaming bigger.  I'm going to add a defensive pick-6 to the Panthers' tally.  Gotta root for TD to get his first-ever pick 6 in the Super Bowl!!  (Like many, I dream of TD being named Super Bowl MVP, though I predict Cam will get that...)

So make that 45-17 Panthers!!

I'm going to try and inject a little reality into this thread.   A few achieveable goals for the Panthers:

1. 27 yds rushing by Cam Newton, sacked half a dozen times, 1 pick, 1 TD pass

2. Stew runs 17 times for 48 yards, 1 TD

3. Graham Gano 1 43 yd FG.  Misses from 51 and 48 (wide left on the 48, short on the 51).

4. Olsen, 4 catches for 57 yds.

5. Ginn, 2 catches for 61 yds, 1 TD

Basically the Broncos are able to contain Cam Newton defensively, and are also able to not turn the ball over on offense.  The Broncos stay one step ahead of the Panthers throughout the game, forcing the Panthers to throw more than they wanted to, which allows the Broncos pass rush to be effective.  Broncos 27   Panthers 17

Thin air and weed are NOT your friends if you want to have logical and coherent thoughts.  You sir, are an embarrassment to the human race.

I'm not going to make personal insults against someone I know zilch about online, but I will say that the Panthers are over hyped in this game.  Blowout talk is ridiculous against any NFL team, especially one that went 12-4 and won against two of the best QBs in the NFL in close playoff games.  No personal insults here.

The Panthers just rolled over the second and third best teams in the NFL.  The Broncos are the ones that are overhyped.  Their offense is the SECOND LOWEST SCORING offense to EVER play in the NFL. You are playing against the #6 defense that has made a living on takeaways.....with a QB who likes to throw interceptions this year.

The Broncos run defense is actually avg AT BEST against good run games.  It is not even going to be close.

And....we could care less whether you like insults.  YOU are the one lurking around another team's board posting your stupid poo....not us.  Don't like what we have to say about your mediocre team, feel free to stay the hell off the board.  Problem solved.

They didn't roll over the Seahawks, they broke out early, then almost lost it (at home).  The Cardinals just fell apart after several turnovers and never recovered.  I know the Panther team (players) are not expecting a blowout...   they know anything can happen, especially in a Super Bowl.  Both teams are good or they wouldn't have come this far.  Step back and see things as they really are.  Just prepare for anything and not set yourself up.

We score 31 points in the first 22 minutes of the game....and then shut it down to keep the clock moving.  We absolutely rolled over them.  And the Cardinals turned the ball over because THAT IS WHAT WE DO.  We take the ball away like we are stealing your lunch money.  The Broncos offense is damn near anemic (second lowed scoring offense to EVER play in the SB) and they are facing the #6 rated defense that takes the ball away at an alarming rate.  They will be lucky to score 13 points.....it is NOT even going to be close.

You needed luck to eek past two BEAT UP teams.  Pitt had their 4th string RB....Ben with torn ligaments in his shoulder....and no Antonio Brown.  Yet, if the 4th string RB did not fumble, you guys were one and done.  Then on to NE.....they had 1 OL healthy and playing in position....Edleman just coming back off injury....Gronk not 100%....no running game to speak of (they played Stephen Jackson for Christs sake).  Brady had to pass EVERY down.....and if Gostkowski does not miss his first XP of the season and if Belichik was not stupid and kicked the FG with 6 min left), you would have lost that game too.

Your LUCK runs out in a BAD way Sunday.

My bold predictions:

Ted Ginn has a punt return for a TD and catches a long bomb for a TD.

We have one pick six on Manning trying to force it as they are playing from behind.

Jonathan Stewart breaks 100 yards rushing.

Ted Ginn wins Superbowl MVP.

I was with you until the mvp part. If they had a most improved player...

But anyway, don't be shocked if the Panthers freeze up when the Broncos open up a can of "whoop ass" about half way through the first half.  Panthers offense goes into vapor lock, then the defense is worn down by still functional Peyton Manning efficiently moving the well oiled Bronco offense throughout...  the clock moving way too fast for the Panthers as they fight from behind in the second half, unfamiliar territory.  Panic sets in as they realize "does this look like a blowout to you guys!?"

Seriously though, chances are it will be close...   we'll see how the Panthers handle that.

If you want a bunch of people who are going to knobslob all over the mediocre Broncos team, take your ass back to your own board.  We know the Broncos are a sad offense.....and their defense against the run is NOT what you make it out to be.

This game will NOT be close....don't like it, I don't fuging care.

I disagree with your can of "whoop ass" theory on how the game will play out.  Both teams are going to try to out muscle each other.  Please do reference how your team played against top 10 rushing teams.  That is where most of our confidence in our running game comes from.  Everyone "knows" how to stop Carolina, yet no one has.  Phillips will have to call the most brilliant game plan in a decade to really "vapor lock" our offense.

Then you have the Broncos moving the ball efficiently against our D.  While we have had some games where teams manage to do that, and there is a possibility that occurs given how we have done against Pro-Bowl quality QBs.  Manning will have to throw effectively outside the numbers down field in order to really succeed in wearing us down.  Sure, if our pass rush disappears, then he will pick us apart.  Given how that hasn't happened lately, I don't see a logical reason for it to completely fall apart.

We have won several games this year, and last year, when trailing that were close, and when plays were needed.  It's not unfamiliar territory.  Now, what will be difficult for Denver to do is to come back if we go up something like 24-7 like how we have been doing in our 2nd quarters this season.  When you say that AZ fell apart, it's not like we didn't play.  They fell apart because of what we did on offense and defense to them.

Finally, we will not panic.  So long as both teams play their best, which is what the rest of the world wants, it could be a close game that comes down to the last couple of possessions.  I feel very confident in our team's ability to finish this game.  While we had trouble in the regular season with taking our foot of the gas, and Russell Wilson having some magical throws in the 2nd half.  We also took down a very close MVP candidate (Carson Palmer) who is more similar to Manning than either are to Wilson.  This season, when it's crunch time, we have come through (except in Atlanta).  Again, we don't doubt that at all.

Fans will be fans.  Some are delusional, others not so much.  We are all passionate about our teams.  But you might want to be a little more realistic in your assessment of your team versus ours.  The Broncos are great, that's why they are here.  So are we.  We both have reasons to feel good about how our guys will make plays.

The only thing we don't have is the pressure of letting a HoF QB down hanging around our necks.  Don't tell me the media wouldn't love to send Payton out as a champion, knocking those arrogant, upstart Panthers out. While players will say they don't feel that pressure, they will.  Who wants to be the guy that let him down?  While we're favored and have a lot of media love, you know everyone is rooting for a Manning upset to send him off to Canton.  We win, it's a boring expectation.
