Cam payed homage to McNair by spending some sideline time with his son

One good story that I hadn't heard about, which is being reported today is how Cam Newton idolized Steve McNair. Sure,  many of us knew that Cam attended Steve McNair's football camp as a child, but apparently his appreciation for McNair went a little deeper.

Quote

“Air McNair,’’ the Panthers quarterback said with a smile when asked about McNair. “What didn’t I like about him? He was a person that I idolized for obvious reasons. He gave me an opportunity, he knocked down doors way before I thought about having the skill-set to come to the NFL. I remember I went to his camp in Nashville and I was just amazed at how much he took to the kids and talked to the kids.

“I hope I am leaving a good mark, just like he did.”

Panthers QB Cam Newton pictured with Trenton McNair, the son of late Titans QB Steve McNair, at Nissan Stadium last season.
Newton, set to lead the Panthers in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, had a chance to repay McNair a debt of gratitude when the Panthers visited Nissan Stadium back on November 15. Prior to the team’s game against the Titans, Newton spent time with McNair’s young son, Trenton, on the sideline.

Some people may make comparisons to Cam and McNair for obvious reasons on the field, but McNair's early influence on Cam has helped Newton to become the man he is off the field as well. I am sure that McNair would be proud and appreciative of the role that he played in Cam's life, and the role model that Cam has developed into today.

This is a really good article.

Shame that some Titan's fans hold such unwarranted contempt for Newton. They didn't deserve McNair.

I kinda wonder why it's just being reported now...

Perhaps it just wasn't the right time or political climate.

It's fitting for this Super Bowl week.

Definitely didn't help the saltiness

From what I heard we basically took over their stadium too.  Lol I bet that was miserable... being in the middle of a super shitty season around a bunch of drunk opposing fans while their team celebrates all over the place all day

Oh well fug em

there were a lot of Panthers fans there for sure. But most of the Titans fans I spoke to are used to the stadium being overrun by opposing team fans - Nashville is a great place to go on a roadtrip! The hardcore fans of course are not happy at all and we did get a few dirty looks, but we also got a lot of compliments and got to take a lot of pictures with their fans...
