Cam Newton's Marketability is greater than Trump's, Obama's and Clinton's.

I always thought that the entertainer-icon comments were all blown up out of proportion by some stodgy, old, almost self-righteous and pompous media pundits and players of the past. Well, after this season I believe that Cam has pretty much put that argument to rest by becoming exactly what he said that he would become by being an entertainer on the field, and becoming an icon off the field. His marketability metrics, as reported by ESPN's David Newton and Darren Rovell are just more evidence that Cam truly is a "Made" man, and more.

"He actually has better influential scores, the ability to change people's perceptions, than Donald Trump, [President] Obama and Hillary Clinton," said Peter Laatz, the executive vice president of Repucom, a global sports and entertainment research and consulting company. Repucom partners with The Marketing Arm on the Davie-Brown Index that measures the metrics of more than 3,800 athletes and celebrities.

Newton has gone from No. 1,182 to No. 131 in the entire DBI database of influence. That puts him ahead of NBA star LeBron James, actors Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio, and singer Blake Shelton. He still is not on par with Denver's Peyton Manning (84 percent) and New England's Tom Brady (83 percent), but the significant increase pushed Newton from 28th to ninth in the NFL.

Of course these metrics are being used to inject Cam into the "face of the NFL" argument, but I don't really believe that there is a "face of the NFL" because the NFL is made up of many faces. Cam has arguably made (and is making) America and the NFL legitimately consider and recognize the many faces of the NFL by being the trailblazer that does things on his own terms---with hard work, excellence and (I dare say) "swag". Whether The NFL and America is ready for it or not, it's a new day, and Cam is smiling and dabbing in the face of the No Fun League, and is being successful validating his way and style (the new style, if you will) all the while.
