Newton will lead the Panthers to SB50 victory his way.

Nicely written.

Cam gets it.  Everyone else doesn't.  He is doing something he loves.  He is getting Big Bucks to play a game.  It doesn't matter how much money is involved. Trophies, awards and recognition come with the game but all in all.  IT IS JUST A GAME.  Cam has fun with it.  He does it with a half stadium full EVERY game. Comes out flying like a bird.  He has full field to do it in.  He loves what he does.  When he scores and does his routine.  He has a huge smile on his face.  Look at the Funchess Touchdown in the NFC Championship game.  He never sees the catch.  He is on the ground looking up with a big smile on his face.  I actually think people are jealous because he has so much fun and makes 100 million doing it.

The writer gets it too.  There is no one like him.  Steve Young and Randle Cunningham he makes reference to out of respect but neither of those two were like Cam.  Young was a great scrambler and passer but they didn't intentionally run him like Cam does.  Cunningham had a big arm but like Young they didn't run him intentionally like Carolina does Cam.

If you watch the Ted Ginn TD.  The whole thing is set up because of Cam.  He took off to the right and every player and employee of the Cardinals took off after him.  He flips the ball to the fastest man in the NFL and the whole left side is wide open.  Makes one guy miss and it is off to the house.  Ted ran almost 100 yds to get there but it was because Arizona was so focused on stopping Cam.

As they used to say about Michael Jordan.  You cannot stop him you can only hope to contain him.  Same with Cam.  Shula has molded our offense to exploit Cam's ability to take over a game.   Defenses try to figure out a way to stop him. So far they have failed miserably.

I never understood comparisons of Newton to Michael Vick. There's nothing even remotely similar about their style of play.  And Vick, while faster than Newton, was undersized. Cam is definitely not.

Comparisons of RG3 to Vick, on the other hand, make perfect sense to me. Both were essentially track stars trying to play quarterback.

Kaepernick? For me, the definitive statement on him is that he actually is what people thought Newton would be.

Harbaugh did a good job covering his flaws. I'm not so sure his current coaches can do the same.

With the staff they HAD, I agree. With Chip Kelly, I am intrigued on what he'll do with Kaepernick.  He needs a running QB.  Kaepernick issues won't disappear but IMO he'll fit what Kelly does better than Bradford did in Philly.  If SF can get their defense back in order.  They might have something with him.  As much as I hate SF I could see them making a run at the NFC West.  They come to Carolina next year.  Should be great game.

Manziel this week...

Texas police search for Johnny Manziel with helicopter, investigating him for possible assault of ex-girlfriend

Newton has never been involved in anything even remotely similar to this, and unlike Manziel he can actually play quarterback.

The comparison is ridiculous.

The caller made it seem, because he had seen Cam in pictures at a club, that that was who Cam is. Comparing Cam to johnny football is lazy and dumb. But folks who dislike Cam will come up with anything to dis on him.

Media types have almost all come around to Cam. It is the every day fan that still come up with the wildest stuff to disparage Cam. And I agree that it is ridiculous. Does Cam have to save every person on earth from a fire to get the respect he deserves?

Maybe it'd help if we stopped treating Facebook posts and letters to the editor like a news story.

Used to be you some idiot said idiotic things, people just chuckled at it and left it behind. These days it's suddenly front page news.

I don't really need a news headline to tell me when someone is stupid.

That is the main problem. For the people that hate Cam, any negative snippet, whether it be true, or especially if it isn't, is used against Cam. See a pic of Cam at a club, and he is a party animal that hates football. Tenn mom writes a letter, and folks use that as an example of Cam being an idiot.

It does not need to be true, and it's even better if it isn't. Any negative you can throw at Cam is useful to spread the hate.

Ah hellz, I am convinced it will never end for some folks.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
